Feature request: Let Plus users buy a one-off usage reset
ChatGPT Plus costs around £20/month in the UK, which works out at roughly £5 a week.
When a Plus user hits a usage limit, why not offer a simple one-off “Buy a usage reset – £5” option?
A lot of ordinary ChatGPT users don’t know or care what tokens, API credits or compute allowances are. They just know they’ve hit a limit halfway through something they want to finish.
For occasional heavy usage, upgrading to a substantially more expensive subscription doesn’t make much sense. But £5 to carry on immediately? I suspect quite a lot of people would happily pay it.
It could be limited to a certain number of resets per billing period if necessary, so it doesn’t undermine higher subscription tiers.
From the user’s perspective it stays extremely simple:
You’ve reached your Plus usage limit.
Wait until your allowance resets — £0
Reset your usage now — £5
No tokens. No API terminology. No new subscription. Just PAYG overflow for consumer ChatGPT.
It would also give OpenAI useful information about demand: people who regularly buy resets may want a higher-allowance subscription, while occasional purchasers clearly need extra capacity without needing a permanent upgrade.
