OpenAI Support Ghosting Customers for Anyone Else?

That is already a progress, thanks for the feedback. Appreciate it.

So you think you could help us here to sort of organizing the orientation for both ends of the problem:

  1. Open AI team to get more efficiency in ticket solutions.
  2. Forum users: use more of principle “search before you write” or any this suggestions?

Maybe a setup/tool/whatever else that would reduce redundant cognitive load on OpenAI by any form of self-orgsnized collaboration from users, especially new ones?

Maybe if we all just calm down and we talk about the problem instead of pointing at eachother we can find a constructive solution.

Some people complain because the water in their holiday pool was too wet and the customer support did not give them immediate attention (because they got a heart attack from laughing at the request).

And some people complain because something was broken like there was too much clorine in the pool and the kids have disappeared.

We don’t know which group you are part of unless you tell us what the problem was. And I tend to put people in the first one first - from experience with other complaints e.g. about a LLM not giving the full truth that exists in their very own bubble and they want to force their believes on others.

Frustrated person orientation assistant? Or no assistant?

@PaulBellow do we have access to forum data or ai to build an assistant (from your history recent posts) or should we look how to build one?

I don’t think you understand the need: the marketplace has rejected AI as customer service intercepting agents, for companies that want something even worse than outsourced third-world script readers or remote order takers. They’ll spend millions on sales and advertisement, have hundreds of people and openings in go-to-market teams and business promoters cold-calling and making presentations. Then throw up an AI that can take absolutely no action and does nothing but waste time, not realizing that support is your real sales tool.

OpenAI already has one of those AI chatbot time wasters offered as the only means of obtaining support. That’s the complaint. It also represents itself as human - a violation of terms if it was you. The one company that should be able to demonstrate an application and do AI right seemingly doing it the worst. OpenAI also has a bunch of forum support that will dump undisclosed AI output as replies, unable to understand the concern (although the “what ChatGPT said translated to English” support has been slightly better recently), but “support” still also unable to even make an API call themselves when following up a month later “still happening?”.

So an AI that cannot fix anything is not a solution to anything.

Hetzner has a very good implementation of a customer support bot. I was surprised how well it was done!

It was really asking the right questions.

On the other hand they are possibly not in the same situation where they would have to block accounts because people build browser extensions to save api cost (not to mention others installing the extension and getting their accounts blocked because the guy who made the extension is doing bad stuff) for their apps or distill the hell out of the models to make their own. Not to mention people using the service from countries that are not on the list of supported countries like Russia or China or perverted stuff or other things that are not allowed and people being surprised that the API costs money or that it takes weeks until they manually sort things out like special contracts etc…

And honestly I like the idea that the model is not capable of all that. Because it gives people time to get used to that stuff before they get overwhelmed with the stuff that is going to happen.

“Forbes Top 100”, read your original thread, lmao.

Resume flexing in some community forum.

The other two TAC threads are funny. I don’t wanna be that guy, but what if, instead of bugs, which is obviously possible, they simply revoked access for some users, where they smelled rotten eggs?

Given your comments it sounds more like the the other peoples issues, already been verified in the past, and likely monitored to some degree as expected and then got yeeted.

And now they’re getting mad they cannot social engineer their way into access to these models.

Not saying there cannot be false positives, just saying starting out your first thread resume flexing (not this one) like that didn’t really contribute to its believability, quite the opposite, because it implies to me that you already suspect subconsciously it’s got something to do with your use-case rather than merely a bug with KYC, since otherwise this info would be of zero value.

That’s my opinion.

Tobias, thanks for the uneducated opinion. But no, you’re completely wrong. I’ve never had TAC, and never been flagged for misuse. Keep trying to shill (flex?) for OpenAI though (talk about cringy).

Also, its not like defenders need OpenAI when models like Kimi K3 are at the same level or better for cheaper. OpenAI’s only edge over Anthropic was cost, but as of today, that edge is gone.

Also, they didn’t just “revoke access for some users”, they accidentally banned tons of people for no reason in an illegitimate ban wave.

There is way too much effort on trying to over-engineer a solution to the customer support problem.

Training, enablement (able to look into debug logs/troubleshooting tools), hiring more smart people, SLA reminders for responsiveness. Yes, it requires OpenAI to spend money and time training, enabling, developing better systems, but its pay off in terms of reputation and maintaining its customer base, is worth it.

I was reading your other posts now. It is pretty clear that you are upset because the algo and possible also some people decided that you are not trustworthy for TAC. You claim that it is a bug. Maybe it is - maybe it is not.

But why do you still stay:

I would only use Anthropic’s models again because their customer support bot gives you a refund when you test it for a couple minutes and you find out that it sucks in comparision.

I think it was a good way of dealing with it. I might test it again next year.

Google also has a great customer support. When you complain there then their human employees have the power to give you a refund or refuse it if you are not behaving well.

Treat the world like you want to be treated.

Ohh, “uneducated opinion”. Damn. I am stunned. How can I possibly recover from this devastating attack.

No buddy, I don’t shill for anyone. I just like to call out angry teenagers on the internet for fun sometimes.

And you clearly act like one.

Name literally any other big tech company with end users at this scale, that has good support at this point, due to the sheer scale and additionally bureaucracy forced upon them by not only themselves, but also governments.

Okay, we’re wandering into non-constructive territory again, imho.

We do want everyone’s valid concerns to be heard as they can be used to improve support for everyone. However, remember that if you dislike a user’s opinion, you can choose to not give them a heart reaction or even set them to ignore if you so chose.

There’s a few gems of posts in this thread, so let’s try to keep it fruitful, please?

Some of you are relatively new, so might I suggest dipping into this thread on the history of this place? Might give you some more perspective on how this community evolved since its inception a half decade ago. There’s a lot more to come, I think, but let’s be mindful of our guidelines here.

Appreciated!

Maybe. What I think is when customers are frustrated, it is because they have not found the info they need or have been instructed to and how to search…

So it’s a customer flow or/and instruction problem before it is support problem.

When this issue is solved, customers don’t want to spend time with support, they just want their benefits from the solution or being in the know and trust of what is going on.

Orientation assistant, as I see it, is a tool that can answer questions people don’t always think to ask, but may benefit from knowing the answers.

What I always hated (and that’s why almost never used) was the search in this forum (besides mobile navigation). I know this is something that cannot be changed, but can’t we brainstorm ways to compensate that?

Tbh, my main painpoint is on the last interaction with the support, i just got a generic answer of “oh the codex limits are just different, we will look into it, please reach out if you have any followups and further questions” Then after providing followups with additional details, comparisons, evidence, and followup questions, it is just radio silence for 4 days already so far.

As a client facing manager myself, even a simple we cant answer this right now, we forwarded to the relevant teams for further investigations, keep tight and we will get back to you within x days is perfect already. heck even if they say, we will get you a response in 1-2 months it is totally fine and understandable (depending on how complex the issue is) but at least some acknowledgement is really appreciated rather than no response at all. I think this is basic customer support baseline, with providing and aligning our expectations.

Right now i dont even know if they read my message or not, or maybe they just totally ignore it. Being busy is fine, but being transparent would be stellar, even if they are forthcoming with the state that they are swamped but are trying their best. Also periodic updates for long running issues, lets say a few days check in “we are still looking into your issue” or “we closed your issue cause there is nothing wrong”.

this would be my constructive criticism.

I think the lack of a response sometimes is what sets people off.
In my own recent and still unresolved issue of Writing Blocks returning a “internal server error”, I finally got a response yesterday Via E-Mail saying that it was being looked at by the Engineers.

Do I know that for sure?..No, of course not. But at least I got a response.

My issue now is that I can’t use the service for my intended purpose until that writing block bug in sorted out. IS that the fault of “support”? Yes and No.
But I also realize that with the launch of 5.6 last week, they are probably getting bug reports from all over.
Mine is probably low on the totem pole. Especially when I use this as a hobby and not depend on it for my livelihood.

But better communication is really needed. Don’t let a customer wait 5-6 days before they get a response. As they say in creative writing classes: SHOW don’t Tell

It is terrible that you guys are having issues but this forum is all users none of us have insider information. The point is for us to have a comunity that helps comunity and makes this observable to the powers that be. There are staff in forum but they are tagged so are moderators who do know more than a regular level 4 user who’s primary job is forum moderation.

They should have two separate complaint lines, account issues and tech support/ bug report. :lotus:

Interesting. I looked into the subject out of curiosity. So this is what all this fuzz is about, the Persona registration services. I can shine some light on this matter and provide some useful information.

To make it short, you are barking at the wrong tree, @please-save-my-earth . The Support Team was not lying or short-cutting, when they told you their hands are tied. It’s a third-party service, who is well known for having a lot of issues. This general problem is well known and dates back at least 2 years now. You are not the first person, who encounters its “moody nature of the registration lottery”.

I skimmed through your previous posts. You have mentioned that you already have your main seat professionally in another AI laboratory and wanted to register this one for your private use cases. I will boldly assume that you have not checked the terms of the third-party company in order to find out, why your registration failed, when it has succeeded elsewhere before. Sometimes life is “unfair” and not an all you can eat buffet.

Quite frankly? You are a lucky one. I have seen countless people gotten only one-time chance to register, a system hiccup sabotaging it and no chance of ever registering at all systemically. Simply softblocked. :woman_shrugging:

I also boldly will assume that you have not carefully read OpenAI’s documentation. Otherwise you would have noticed the disclaimer that it is not guaranteed to work for everybody at any condition. OpenAI does not make the rules.

Is it a wonkey system? Oh absolutely. Is it OpenAI’s fault? Nope. It’s young and buggy. We joke about this service in my region. Does OpenAI have to comply to certain laws and requirements around the globe? You can bet on this.

So. You might wanna have a look into how many seats you even can have in such a hot field of yours. Such services exist because of identity theft and similar problems in the past.

With a little more research and a little more critical thinking you can figure out and even solve a lot on your own. Don’t expect everyone else to jump as soon as there is a problem, which needs a bit more effort to solve. There is no use in getting angry, because people do not match your expectations of an easy immediate fix. You might not like this answer, but that’s the reality.

Have a good start into the weekend everyone.

edit: quick little typo correction

So your Answer is that it’s been broken for two years and yet OpenAi still lacks tools or visibility into a critical workflow? What if Persona allowed someone malicious in to the system? OpenAi could not have visibility into that? Is OpenAi not in a partnership with this company or some kind of service agreement?

This is the entire problem. A problem is known about for years, and OpenAi takes no accountability and does nothing to empower support. There seems to be a culture here for giving OpenAi a pass and telling customers to move on instead of fixing the broken systems.

Your post highlights the excuse making behavior that has led to tons of frustrated customers. With a little more critical thinking, as you say, these problems could be solved. It’s simply a lack of desire to fix these problems.

And then the damage control team floods the thread, attacks customers and tells them they are “lucky” and life is not a buffet..Lol.. again.. accountability issues.

I’m thankful for your post, it confirms to me and others how OpenAI ultimately feels about their customers.

No. :slightly_smiling_face:

I don’t know why you jump to the conclusion that basically people around here are giving this laboratory an easy pass. It would be lovely, if we were to live in a perfect world. Instead we got this one. And so a lot of people you will meet around here, have cultivated the habit of helping ourselves and each other, if we can.

As far as I see it, you have two options. You absolutely could flood this forum with posts out of anger and frustration. But don’t expect to create an echo chamber that reinforces your current mindset. Or getting special treatment. That gets you nowhere. OR. You start to cultivate the habit of finding solutions too. It might not have occured to you yet that because this issue has some standing history: humans formed groups to share tips and tricks of how to maybe increase the likelihood of a successful registration despite the problems.

If you really believe that OpenAI is the only platform, which has to deal with the wonky tech, then you haven’t been around much yet. Do I really have to hand you a silver platter with the whole scope of troubleshooting methods? Your case has factors, like every case does.

You claim yourself to be a researcher. Nothing stops you to put that researching skills of yours to good use. It probably will give you faster results than waiting for the world to figure it all out. You can’t control what others do. But you can decide, what you do.

And with that I return to my building sessions. I can point at the doors, but I can’t solve your problem for you. You have to walk through it yourself. If you do, is totally up to you. May it resolve quickly and may the resources of tweaks out there guide you. Yep it takes effort from your end. A lesson, it looks like, you need to learn. You are welcome.
