OpenAI powered open source rewind with Cursor-like chat

Hi everyone! We built an open source alternative to Rewind AI, powered by any OpenAI models to ask questions about your timeline with a Cursor-like experience, for example to:

  • summarize meetings (even days or weeks of them)
  • find back information / search
  • share reports to your team
  • productivity analysis
  • etc.

Would love any feedback!

In the video, you have said, “you can use voice transcripts of a meeting.” However, in Germany, secretly recording conversations without the consent of all participants is generally illegal under § 201 of the German Criminal Code (StGB), which protects the confidentiality of the spoken word.

Key Points:

  • Secret audio recordings without consent are punishable by law.
  • Penalties can include fines or even imprisonment for up to three years.
  • Public conversations may sometimes be recorded if no confidentiality is expected.
  • Exceptions exist in specific cases, such as certain journalistic investigations.

So, using voice transcripts from secretly recorded meetings could be legally problematic in Germany.

One may think, yeah but it a work meeting so confidentiality is not expected but:

In Germany, employees have the right to refuse being recorded in the workplace. Even in professional settings, privacy and data protection laws apply, meaning that any recording of conversations, meetings, or calls requires the explicit consent of all participants.

Key Points:

  • Consent is mandatory: No one can be recorded without their agreement.
  • Workplace policies: While companies may set internal rules, they cannot override privacy laws.
  • Employee rights: If an employee refuses to be recorded, their decision must be respected.
  • Public vs. private setting: Even if a conversation occurs in a semi-public workspace, employees still have a reasonable expectation of privacy.

Recording without consent can lead to legal consequences, including fines and legal action under German privacy laws and GDPR.

In France, the legality of recording conversations is governed by strict privacy laws. According to Article 226-1 of the French Penal Code, recording or transmitting conversations without the consent of all parties is prohibited. Violations can result in penalties of up to one year in prison and a €45,000 fine.

In the United States, the legality of recording conversations varies by state, with laws categorized into two primary types:

One-Party Consent States: In these states, only one participant in a conversation needs to consent to the recording. This means that if you are part of the conversation, you can legally record it without informing the other party. As of 2022, 38 states and the District of Columbia operate under one-party consent laws.

All-Party Consent States: In these states, all participants in a conversation must consent to the recording. Recording without the consent of all parties is illegal and can lead to legal consequences. As of 2022, 12 states have all-party consent laws.

I would say before you use an AI device that does that kind of stuff you consult a lawyer - and if you intent to record me without me knowing also bring at least 4 bodyguards with you.

For me it looks like AI is used to secretly install some kind of acceptance on stuff that, just because now every kid can do it, should not be made legal - no matter who finds it useful in whatever kind of way.

“wearables” is just a new name for spy gadgets.

No problem, Germans can stay with horse, stone & fire if they want to.

I’d prefer that over total surveilance any day.

What an awful response.

There are privacy issues when you are potentially & secretly recording other people. These types of privacy laws are not exclusive to Germany.

After reviewing your profile it seems like you’re disinterested in any actual feedback, and more interested in keeping your content relevant. It’s a shame you’re allowed to continue shoveling something that can be easily re-produced by an LLM.

I’d go even further and question your integrity. Open-source is a great option for someone who wants to release a technology that’s potentially dangerous without any repercussions.
