Has OpenAI lost its mind? Face scan required to use o3

I am done with OpenaAI.

To use o3 via API I have to let them face scan me (plus scan of ID). Absolutely and completely unacceptable.

Congrats to OpenAI censuring my posts. Once more you have shown your true colors!

Already cancelled subscription and switched to Anthropic for the 15% edge cases where I needed o3. Not that I believe Anthropic are in any way better (ethically speaking) but so far they do not want my biometric data.

I mean: giving all these biometric (!) and private data to the likes of OpenAI and MicroSoft (or to any US based company) is plain stupid at best.

Now this too: OpenAI wins $200 million U.S. defense contract

They are becoming an AI-powered surveillance company.

I understand the frustration. Biometric verification feels like a big leap, especially for developers just wanting API access. I hope OpenAI considers less invasive alternatives.

There is very little to understand. It is unacceptable and I (and others) already stopped using openAI API.
We are not yet in a police & surveillance state here in Europe. o3 is an excellent model, but not worth this kind of harassment.

Thats crazy. No doubt this is just the beginning, soon altman will be asking for all of our eyeballz to use any api

exactly. First they lower the price - I was excited and started using o3 a lot for coding - then two days later you can not use it unless you 1) let them face scan you, 2) provide a scan of your ID, and 3) deliver a video of yourself.

Also, Persona stores your ID scan indefinitely (forever) and OpenAI can retrieve the exact images of your ID using a simple API call.

Reputable ID checkers don’t allow this. So why is it so important to OpenAI? Especially when o3 isn’t even all this-and-that.

Don’t worry though, privacy is apparently the ā€œcoreā€ of their products, despite giving themselves direct access to your government ID until the end of time.

well if people were more careful with their systems the extra security wouldn’t be necessary.

there are so many horror stories of api charges racked up because people can’t figure out how to not compromise their system to thieves.

you really believe they do this for YOUR security, don’t you?

now you’re projecting what you think i believe.

this year alone i’ve seen more threads than i can count of people who’s api key was stolen and thousands of dollars racked up generating stuff.

what i said was what i said
it’s the direction that the company is forced into because of the identity theft that is rampant, because people don’t understand how to protect their systems.

ok, you are right, absolutely.

and be aware i’m fully aware of where this technology goes
every single hint of a question you ask any Ai will be used against you and attached to your future social credit score in the beast system.

if you facepalm everyone who speaks the truth to you you’ll only be surrounded by those who lie

ok you are right. Absolutely.

There’s absolutely no way in a million years I’d scan my face to use an API. Not even if the API was to free withdrawal money from a bank.

I’ll happily use Claude instead.

This is the shape of things to come. More and more banking and government services use facial recognition technology, so I would think Anthropic will not be far behind.

Comparing OpenAI to a bank isn’t fair. Greedy banks pay interest, allow withdraws, and typically don’t quietly siphon (steal) funds out of your account after a year. OpenAI can’t meet any of that.

Comparing OpenAI to government is okay, but by doing so you would be criticizing the current administration.

OpenAI’s ID checks are to protect their cash, not yours.

same here. Will never give them my biometric face scan.

you’re still here and apparently don’t realize that the powers that be already have your face scanned from your smartphone.
