OpenAI authentication, better plugins and Atlas

Hello everyone,

I’ve shared feedback and requests on this platform before, and I’ve seen many of them realized in production. That makes me genuinely happy and comfortable sharing three more ideas:

  1. “Sign up with OpenAI” and “Continue with OpenAI”

I think OpenAI could offer its own authentication domain, just like “Continue with Google/Gmail” or “Continue with Microsoft/Outlook.” This should be available not only for Codex plugins, but also for developers who want to add OpenAI authentication to their own apps.

I am the developer of Zepliner, an eSIM app, and if OpenAI authentication were an option, I would gladly add it to my app.

  1. A more connected plugin experience in Codex

I’ve been using Codex since day one. Its vanilla version is clean, stable, extremely useful on its own, and I really like it. The issue for me begins with plugins.

I don’t like having to sign up for different platforms just to use their plugins inside Codex. My profiles, credentials, and emails keep accumulating, and I end up needing third-party dashboards I never wanted to manage. I only want to add a plugin to Codex, not create a separate relationship with every provider.

There could be a single consent screen inside Codex showing what needs to be shared with each provider. Access, permissions, and related tasks could then be managed through my OpenAI–Codex account.

Installing a plugin should feel like extending Codex, not registering for another independent platform. The current app-store or marketplace approach feels too fragmented for OpenAI’s vision. Things should be more connected and less separated.

  1. Bring back Atlas—or its spirit

I really liked using Atlas as my primary browser, and I was upset when it was retired. I think OpenAI could still have it.

A browser without model selection might actually be a better fit: fewer configurations and less chat integration, while keeping its core intelligence. Even a simpler browser with Luma-like capabilities would feel better to me than what Google currently provides with Gemini Flash.

Hi @cppriest,

Thank you for taking the time to share these detailed suggestions. We appreciate your feedback around OpenAI authentication for third-party apps, a more unified plugin experience in Codex, and bringing back elements of the Atlas browsing experience.

These are thoughtful ideas, and we appreciate your continued engagement with our products.
