One conversation, automatic switching between Chat, Work, and Codex, and simpler thinking controls

I’d like ChatGPT to provide one continuous conversation that automatically switches between Chat, Work, and Codex as the task changes.

For example:

  • I ask, “What kind of cat is this?” We have a normal conversation about cats.
  • I ask, “Can you compare this cat spreadsheet with the information in my email?” It shifts into Work and uses the appropriate tools.
  • I say, “I want to build a game with all these cats.” Codex takes over and starts building.

The conversation, files, browser access, permissions, and context should carry through. I shouldn’t have to decide which mode to use, switch interfaces, or hunt for a chat that appears in one view but not another.

Thinking levels should also be automatic by default. The system should estimate the effort needed and adjust as the task develops. A simple question needs a quick answer; a complicated task needs more thought. Let me steer that in plain language: “Give me a quick answer” or “Take your time and check this carefully.”

Please keep manual controls for people who want them, but trim down the number of thinking levels. A few clear choices—such as Auto, Quick, Standard, and Deep—would be much easier to understand.

If a task is about to use substantially more time or tokens, make that clear and let me set limits. Otherwise, handle the routing and effort behind the scenes.

Browser sharing also needs to remain reliable throughout. Work’s browser sharing fails intermittently for me, and neither support nor I have been able to explain why. That pushes me into Codex even for tasks that have nothing to do with coding.

I want to tell ChatGPT what I’m trying to accomplish. I shouldn’t have to manage the damn machinery. LOL.
