Notification — Browser Tab Status Indicator for ChatGPT

Subject: Feature Request — Browser Tab Status Indicator for ChatGPT

Problem

When ChatGPT is processing a lengthy request, users often switch to other browser tabs to continue working. Currently, the Chrome tab does not clearly indicate when ChatGPT has completed its response.

This forces users to repeatedly return to the ChatGPT tab to determine whether processing has finished.

Proposed improvement

Update the ChatGPT browser tab title and/or favicon dynamically to communicate its processing status.

Suggested states:

  1. Working: ChatGPT is actively generating a response or executing tools.

  2. Complete: Processing has finished and the response is ready for review.

  3. Action Required: Processing is paused pending user input or confirmation.

The most important improvement is a visible distinction between working and complete, without opening the tab.

Existing example

Claude already provides browser-tab status feedback that helps users recognize when processing is complete. A comparable capability in ChatGPT would improve its usability.

Benefits

  • Reduces unnecessary switching between browser tabs.

  • Improves productivity during longer AI processing tasks.

  • Supports workflows involving several simultaneous ChatGPT conversations.

  • Provides useful status information without intrusive desktop notifications.

Request

Please forward this suggestion to the ChatGPT user-interface/product development team for consideration.

This is a relatively modest interface improvement that could provide meaningful benefits for users who regularly multitask while working with ChatGPT.

Thank you for considering this request.
