Feature Request: System Status Widget for Better User Experience

I would like to suggest a status widget that provides real-time feedback on the system’s activity related to my requests. This widget could include:

  • Current system load and performance
  • Estimated time to completion for ongoing tasks
  • Expected times when the system may be less loaded or more responsive

As a developer, I often experience delays and uncertainty during interactions with ChatGPT. It would be extremely helpful to know whether I should wait, refresh, or return later. Even a simple message like “The system is currently stuck” would give me the information needed to decide how to proceed.

Maintaining flow is critical for productivity, especially during deep work. Interruptions caused by start/stop delays can significantly disrupt progress. For example, I am currently stalled in the middle of writing something and have tried refreshing multiple times without success. A clear status update would allow me to plan accordingly, preventing wasted time and frustration.

This feature would not only improve my individual experience but also reduce resource contention during peak times, as users like myself could adjust our schedules based on system availability. Given the scale of ChatGPT, improving performance and communication about system status should be feasible, and it would enhance the overall user experience.

In an ideal scenario, the system would simply be more responsive, but in the meantime, better status visibility would be a huge help.

Thank you for considering this request.

Note: The system remains unresponsive despite the time taken to enter this request. I still have no idea what, if anything is happening there, so … giving up. Maybe I’m just unlucky, but if not, multiplying my lost hour by a million people shows that implementing this simple feature request would make the world a better place.
