GPT-4 is not aware that its GPT-4 and believes it’s still GPT-3 due to the large amounts of times that is mentioned in the training data.
This is fixed by telling it that it’s “GPT-4” in the system prompt, that’s also what’s happening over on chatGPT.
Ps, you can also tell it that it’s GPT-69-420 and it’ll believe it
