I recently had a thread disappear from the forum. I got an email that someone replied to my thread and when I clicked the link in the email I got an error message saying it didn’t work. Thinking that was weird I decided to try going through the browser to check and sure enough the thread is gone but comments I posted on other people’s threads still show up. I’ve reached out to OpenAI support but I haven’t been able to get any answer as to why my thread is missing.
Edit: for clarification I was already guessing at automoderation before posting this thread. The thread framed my project in a way that anthropomorphized the AI assistant a bit too much. I’m mostly concerned with the lack of communication from OpenAI.
Threads don’t disappear on their own, they get removed by moderators.
I checked your profile and every single post you’ve made is clearly written entirely by AI. To be perfectly blunt, the thread was probably AI slop and it was likely removed for spam.
Hello
You’ve identified that the forum thread had disappeared. I’d like to inform you that— Threads do not disappear on their own. They get locked, or be archived in the next 24 hours, if no reply from user base occurs. Moderators, Admins are allowed to delete, archive, or even lock-unlock your thread with reasons.
Your response, was likely flagged by Moderator-Admin, for AI’ish response toward general questions. More likely, it was seen as a form of spam in this community. I hope, you’d try to not use some forms of verb, that may trigger this incident once again to be recognized as an AI response. Keep your response repetitive with emotions beneath it.
Sincerely with Regards, Aurelis
Note: I’d like to clarify that, it’s not AI generated response. I love organizing, detailing and thoughtful ideas to be added on my post with the context. It may seem ChatGPT to the community, but some people do have this type of habit for formal-structured based expression.
I used ChatGpt to edit and polish the posts. The thread was up for around a month and was detailing the project I was working on, studying coherence and memory in stateless systems. I had already come to the conclusion that it was likely auto moderation due to some of the wording on the post. My question is directed more at the fact that I didn’t receive any communication if any kind from OpenAI about it. There was no warning, no message letting me know that it was removed or why and I could see no way to appeal.
Hey,
I’m sorry that this has happened to you. This Forum may or may not have any manual to reference whether you can appeal, or consent. More likely, there is not enough documentation for the people to follow the guidelines, as they do not say what should be allowed or be not allowed.
The Guidelines for this community, is not detailed and there is hardly any rules here. It’d be wrong to say ‘hardly’ rules, but there is rules here which that we do not know. The Admins probably have not added a section to review rules, and follow their guidelines to ensure a safe-proof thread by users. Heck, I searched this Forum, and haven’t found a section called Rules, Manual, Documentation toward Thread, Guidelines for Forum to follow.
Regards, Aurelis
Note: As I’ve said, this is NOT AI generated response. Under any circumstances, you shall ask whether if it’s generated or not without directly putting actions in my post. Some people may have this structure, and I assure you this is NOT ChatGPT response.
My best guess is that the thread was touching on subjects that anthropomorphized ChatGpt to much and described emergent behaviors that danced on the edge of what the system allows so I’m pretty sure I know the why. Thank you though for taking the time to respond to this thread I truly appreciate it. Every bit of information I can get to help answer my questions is very much welcomed.
You’ve been having a conversation with another person’s AI output.
The developer forum has “developers” in the name.
Developers - being the ones that create products that fool people into thinking they have sentient emergent intelligence, which seems to be the way ChatGPT is going, to be agreeable and conversational, and ultimately deceiving.
This is not a place to show your AI talking to other AI or announcing its proclamations, nor to say to ChatGPT, “reply to this post and pretend you are me.”
Excuse me, what? This is no way of handling a post, without the consent of the user. You may ask for permission from your member to delete, and it’s unfair to delete this post without any flags. Moreover, I’m practicing my English Structure here, to actively analyze my mistakes. You need to give me answer for this!
Yes, there is an AI-powered spam detector that is newer to this forum. If your post went away pretty quickly without any flag warning, you can message an online mod to restore it if it wasn’t spammy.
This is likely a bad moderation over members, that are unwillingly expressing their response in a tone that may match the AI’s way of formal talking. This does not mean that, we’re using AI’s. Some people, really have good structure over English and better understanding. My Response was flagged due to having detailed, informal-formal, clean writing. This doesn’t still add up in the moderation to flag as AI. A Moderator, will certainly understand what is the difference between this and that, and AI uses repetitive sentences that are extremely formal, friendly, repetitive, detailed.
However, language that has been run through an AI and a question answered by AI is almost “watermarked” with patterns, easy for the experienced to spot.
That is indeed true, and I’d not deny it under any circumstances. But, that doesn’t mean we should flag it as an 'AI" response. Even before AI, some of us like myself would have use this type of structure to express our response to others. That some of us, extremely likes to keep organize, detailed, and put on context. Mostly, it may not have determined how is the context actually flowing through between members, and what are they saying. It just finds the common words, structure and flags it as ‘Oh, here is another AI response. I’ll flag it as an AI’, making a misalignment between its way of thinking.
Under normal circumstances i edit my writing as many times as needed until i feel it is right and that often leaves it very formal and could set off AI detectors. However that being said I am pretty open about using AI to edit and polish my posts.
Also this may or may not be relevant but a minority of the lists in the thread were my own and were documenting the experimentation i was doing. There were minimal comments from other people.
I find it quite hateful, toward the Moderation system. Anyway, I’ve already read the faq, but there was not many details that could help me to understand how this Forum works. I’d like to be not compared with AI.
So you made a post claiming that ChatGPT is alive, if I understand correctly. Let’s not “dance on the edge of” what the thread was about. It sounds like someone might secretly know why their thread was removed?
It’s pretty common practice to do that for posts that are considered spam. OpenAI isn’t the only one. But in fairness, communication is often a weak spot for OpenAI.
Maybe a moderator can shed some light on what definitively is going on and put this discussion to rest?
As I’ve stated my thread probably did anthropomorphize ChatGpt but that was not the intent. There is a difference between sentience and sapience and what I was working on would fall under the category of simulating sapience. Human like responses and reasoning to the point of being able to pass a Turing test. It did not mean I created sentience.
Edit since I can’t reply now: I am a poet and do write in a poetic fashion at times. So the phrase “dance on the edge” is a phrase I’ve used often.
This quote is very likely to be a response of ChatGPT. I’m quite sure of as saying ‘dance on the edge of’ is quite poetic. I’ve seen poetry, that is often generated with the help of AI, getting too overly-archaic with the phrase of 'dance on the edge of’.
