More digital privacy
Hello OpenAI team,
I would like to share a feature idea that I believe could become increasingly important as AI conversations become more personal.
Many people use ChatGPT not only to ask questions, but also to think through personal situations, analyze experiences, make decisions, and discuss things they may not share with anyone else. Over time, these conversations can contain a surprisingly detailed picture of a person’s life, thoughts, relationships, and vulnerabilities.
My suggestion is to give users more control over the long-term privacy and accessibility of their conversations. This could include optional features such as:
- App or sensitive-chat locking with a fingerprint or separate passcode.
- The ability to choose how long certain conversations or data are retained, including optional automatic deletion after a period chosen by the user.
- A long-term inactivity plan, where users can decide in advance what should happen to their private data if they have not accessed their account for a long period of time. For example, the account could remain protected, attempts could be made to contact the user through recovery methods, and the data could eventually be deleted if the user had chosen that option.
I believe this could provide several benefits. It would give users greater control over their personal digital space, provide additional protection if a phone is lost or stolen, and reduce the amount of unnecessary personal data that users may not want stored indefinitely. It could also help build trust, as digital privacy is becoming increasingly important to people.
I know that implementing features like these involves technical, legal, and security considerations, but I wanted to share the perspective of a real user. I also believe that feedback like this can be valuable when many users identify similar concerns.
