Let users exclude Project chats from global “Recents”

I use ChatGPT/Codex Projects for long-running, organized work, while I use ordinary standalone chats for quick, ad-hoc questions and tasks.

With the current behavior, chats created inside a Project also appear in the global Recents list. This makes Recents much less useful because it mixes two very different workflows:

  • Project chats — already organized and accessible inside their respective Projects

  • Standalone/ad-hoc chats — which are what I expect Recents to help me quickly find

As the number of Project chats grows, they overwhelm the Recents list and make it harder to locate unrelated, temporary conversations.

Suggested improvement

Please add one of these options:

  1. Exclude Project chats from Recents by default, or

  2. Add a Recents filter such as:

    • All chats

    • Standalone / Unassigned chats

    • Project chats

  3. Add a user preference: “Show Project chats in Recents” that can be turned on or off.

Projects already provide the organizational structure for their chats, so duplicating those conversations in the global Recents list creates unnecessary clutter.

My preferred behavior would be:

Recents = chats that are not assigned to a Project.

This would make Projects and Recents complement each other instead of showing largely overlapping information.

You can remove Project chats from “Recents” by hitting the “…” and unclicking Projects under “Show,” but you may be suggesting a different system altogether.

That’s it! Thanks for your help! It helped declutter my threads!
