As a power user building GPTs with many integrated actions through Make, I’d like to share important product feedback to improve workflow efficiency across GPT models and custom assistants.
1. GPTs with actions can’t be used inside regular conversations
I’ve created a GPT named Victoria, connected to over 15 actions (send emails, WhatsApp messages, generate newsletters, and more). However, I can’t use her inside a regular conversation with GPT-4o (O4) or GPT-3.5 (O3).
That means when I’m doing deep work or analysis using GPT-4o, I have to copy and paste everything into Victoria to trigger an action. This breaks the automation flow and makes collaboration less fluid.
There should be a way to:
- Mention or activate a GPT (e.g. @Victoria) inside any chat.
- Let a custom GPT join a thread and take action without leaving the current chat.
2. Actions are locked to the GPT environment
Even though GPTs now run on GPT-4o, their actions are only usable within their dedicated conversation. That means I can’t:
- Run webhooks or Make automations from outside the GPT’s own chat.
- Use my GPT’s tools when working in a deeper conversation using O4 or O3 models.
It would be very useful to trigger GPT actions from any conversation, or allow models like O4 to access those same functions dynamically.
3. Lack of model version flexibility
Currently, GPTs run on GPT-4o, but as OpenAI releases more advanced versions, I’d like to be able to:
- Choose the model version (O3, O4, or future ones).
- Or allow automatic upgrades with compatibility settings.
- And benefit from the extended reasoning capabilities in more advanced contexts.
GPTs are incredibly powerful not just for conversation, but for executing real-world automation. To unlock their full value, we need seamless interoperability between GPTs, actions, and all available model versions.
Thank you for the amazing work. These improvements would take GPT usage to the next level.
