ChatGPT Projects is a relatively new feature available since December 2024 and I was wondering if there is a fixed limit of chats that can be kept in one project or is it unlimited? I have added over 30 chats, and haven’t faced any limits but really want to understand the limitations of this feature.

Because it uses GPT-4o, the limits work same in project, I think.
Plus users will be able to send up to 80 messages every 3 hours on GPT-4o
The model in the project folder allows for the creation of multiple independent chats.
For example, you can open 10 separate chat windows, each with its own token limit.
For each chat window should have
128k context length limit
Based on the information provided in the project folder, there is no indication that chats within a project share a collective token limit.
Thank you for your response. I am aware of models I can with ChatGPT Projects, and their context length limit, however, I was asking about a completely different thing. Perhaps, I didn’t make myself clear enough. I am asking if there is any limit of chats that can be created or added to a ChatGPT project.
In official help page on OpenAI, there is no information about it.
Because they did not mention limits of chats, we can understand as users after some experiences.

I’m encountering a limitation it seems to the number of chats I can add to a project. But it’s inconsistent. Some projects I have about eight, others I cannot add more than one.
I’ve also noticed it seems that if a chat was originally created using a different model than 4o it seems that chat cannot be added to any project. Which is confusing as I thought the model was automatically changed to 4o.
But in any case I am encountering many “The chat cannot be moved to the project” error dialogs lately.
It looks as if I’m maxed out at 8 conversations. The older one’s are gone. 
I have a Pro account, the one that costs $200, and my projects are being capped at 20 chats. Older chats inside a project are not accessible from the UI anymore, and may have simply disappeared.
I think this would have been a great thing to know beforehand, as I was using projects to categorize information I wanted to refer to later.
Use ChatGPT projects with care until there’s more clarity in the documentation.
I had a moment of panic not seeing my older project files, because I didn’t know about a limit either. I just searched the name and it came up and is operational, though. Are you able to just search for the chat you’re looking for?
I’d have to remember everything I did - sometimes I just want to remember what questions I already asked. My solution was to go to settings and get an export, which gave me a large JSON file and a large HTML file, mostly helpfully organized 
OMG, thank you! I was able to find them thanks to the search function!! You’re saving my exams, which are in a few days… I had all my notes in GPT project folders…
i have a $20 per month. i have same issue (i.e. project folder. add chats. only can see first twenty chats. think they are lost. but then search button shows they are still there. ). IMO they need to show all the chats. not just first twenty.
Here’s a work around. Not complete fix. The app on Android shows all chat sessions per project. So I had like forty or maybe more.
App just loads then all add you scroll it loads more till it gets them all.
Website needs this fix.
UPDATE: 2025-03-28
FYI the website is fixed. now for projects with more than 20 or so chat sessions and i scroll down on the project it will load ten more then you scroll and it shows ten more until you get to the first chat session. so i think they fixed the web GUI IMO. pretty fast fix IMO.
