We’re updating our ChatGPT Pro and Plus subscriptions to better support the growing use of Codex.
We’re introducing a new $100/month Pro tier. This new tier offers 5x more Codex usage than Plus and is best for longer, high-effort Codex sessions.
In ChatGPT, this new Pro tier still offers access to all Pro features, including the exclusive Pro model and unlimited access to Instant and Thinking models.
To celebrate the launch, we’re increasing Codex usage for a limited time through May 31st so that Pro $100 subscribers get up to 10x usage of ChatGPT Plus on Codex to build your most ambitious ideas.
What is going to happen to the current $200-cost Pro plan? Do I need unsubscribe from $200 plan, and subscribe again to the $100 plan? Or the next payment will be decreased automatically?
You have to click-through to find what the “to” might be, or could ascend to in the future. (Adblock does its desired magic in making the checkout page not load.)
Pro $100 – Built for real projects. For those who use advanced tools and models throughout the week with 5x higher limits than Plus (and 10x Codex usage vs. Plus for a limited time).
Pro $200 – For heavy lifting. Run your most demanding workflows continuously, even across parallel projects, with 20× higher limits than Plus.
I came back to using Codex after a break. The last time I used it was on March 13th. Today, I barely used it for 1.5 hours coding my personal project and I ran out of 5 hour limit after just 3 prompts! This is really concerning… Look at the chart below - last usage in March - not hitting any limits, usage today - tiny fraction compared to March - hit 5 hour usage limit
Yeah, I’ve been using ChatGPT to write Codex prompts for me for a while now… My bigger concern is that today’s session put my weekly limit at 84%, so it looks like I’ll be blocked for the whole week after just a few prompts during a couple of hours of work. I guess that’s how they get you. I heard people have better luck with Cursor?
It’s like trading in one step-son for another… let it get a tour of its new home first…
-Tell your Codex to examine the work environment it is in.
-Tell it to map out your project’s architecture, files, and what calls for what in between them.
-Tell it to generate a report that explains to your other Ai how to create prompts in order to work on the specific aspect you want to work on.
-Give that prompt to 5.4, on the web-access, this works best inside of a project session designated to your project… on the Api someone else is gonna have to help you there… but you don’t want your codex prompts entering into your ChatGPT without some sort of project container working to remember them.
That much alone will cause your 5.4gpt to stop blinding ordering codex around, and when you explain to 5.4 and codex that you’re transferring prompts between them they will calibrate after a bit.
When you bring a 5.4 prompt back into codex, first type in ‘examine this prompt, how well will it work: [paste your prompt]’
It will tell you if it is clean or not, might offer edits, if it offers edits show that report to 5.4…
do a little bit of that before you begin working and tokens won’t go flying out the window so quickly.
That sounds like a good advice! Thank you! I did some of that already, so my Web based 5.4 and my Codex “know” they are working together, and I past the report of work done from Codex to 5.4 and then get a new prompt, and periodically i make the 5.4 examine the test logs to make sure we have not introduced any regression… I haven’t tried pre-validating the prompts with Codex yet…
An honest way of phrasing this announcement would be more like
Hey! We’ve made your plus plan significantly worse, so please get this new plan for 5 times the price and no guarantees that it won’t be nerfed to the point of being useless in the future.
I have been trying to get the pro plan and your website wont let me. Also support is abysmal, you guys need to work on that. I’m able to get the 20 plan and I can upgrade to the 200 dollar plan but when I try with the pro plan it errors out.
so happy to hear this. Codex is working with me on a university Phd. level project, doing an exceptional job of managing its token budget, but this will make it so much easier for both of us to work.
