I wanted to know if I want to use this version of the model gpt-4o-2024-08-06" and I never give response_format to { "type": "json_object" }, can I continue to use this model as is like I was with gpt-4o 2024-05-13? or does it mean switching to this versioneverything will be in a JSON format and a schema needs to be provided?

Structured formats is optional. The response format is set to “text” by default, the same as no setting.
You do not need to use or make use of structured outputs or structured tool calls, but they fill in what a 50% price reduction gets you in model quality when producing JSON.
gpt-4o-2024-08-06 has been “gpt-4o” since September.
gpt-4o-2024-11-20 is the same pricing as it, with a difference in the style and behavior.
