But the pricing tables for this month, August 2025. The actual cost of 3-small was $0.01 and the batch api should’ve been $0.0001 per 1M tokens. But here we are.
Can someone confirm whats going on and why does different pricing have been applied? We’re also a on tier 4 usage.
OpenAI API Pricing for Embeddings states $0.0001/1M tokens for text-embedding-3-small Batch API. I have been charged $0.01/1M tokens which is 100x higher.
Similarly, stated pricing is $0.00013/1M tokens for text-embedding-3-large but actually charged is $0.065/1M tokens which is 500x higher.
This is 3 magnitudes off and completely changes what can and cannot be built with this tech.
I have the same, today I used n8n for my business and used the gpt-4 model. I used 10k tokens and it should be around 0.06 up to 0,12 but it charged me a fxcking dolar
From what I’ve gathered so far, that one is incorrect and we’re working to correct this ASAP. Please do let me know if you find any other incorrect references. Thank you!
I may need your help tracking this down since I’m not easily able to view deleted projects. Do you have a timeframe where you used text-embedding-3-large? From your org over the last 3 months, I see usage for text-embedding-3-small, but this may be due to the relevant project being deleted.
It turns out the final pricing was set at $0.13 per 1M tokens, with batching priced at $0.065 per 1M. This update was reflected on the model card and official pricing page—after nearly a month of being displayed as $0.065 per 1M and $0.00013 per 1M.
Frankly, it’s quite frustrating to see such an oversight from a company like OpenAI.
@Anass_El_Basraoui Definitely understand your frustration. Let me know the approximate date range and models used (-large and/or -small) and I’d be happy to credit the difference!
Thanks for your answer!
I was just excited about the new pricing—especially the batching system. I’ve got an idea that could turn into something big, so I was really looking forward to it. But it’s not a big deal, inchallah there will be another way.
