Problem
When I type three backticks (```) in the ChatGPT message composer, it automatically creates a code block before I can specify the programming language.
For example, I want to write:
console.log("Hello");
However, as soon as I type the opening three backticks, the editor creates a code block. If I then type javascript, it treats it as ordinary text inside the block instead of recognizing it as the language identifier.
This makes it difficult to create syntax-highlighted code blocks directly in the composer.
Suggestion
Add an option to select the programming language after the editor automatically creates a code block.
For example:
- Type three backticks to create a code block.
- A language selector appears, allowing the user to choose JavaScript, Python, C, HTML, CSS, or another language.
- The selected language is applied to the code block for appropriate syntax highlighting.
This would make code formatting more intuitive and eliminate the need to work around the editor’s automatic formatting behavior.
Expected Benefit
This feature would improve the coding experience, make Markdown less of a barrier for beginners, and allow users to create properly formatted code blocks directly in ChatGPT.
