I was Scammed by another AI company impersonating ChatGPT and OpenAI

Same. It looks very similar to Chatgpt. I paid 3-month membership without thinking twice…Today I went to Chatgpt’s official website and found out I didn’t pay anything to open AI. Then I soon found out I got scammed by this company (“chatbot”). Can open AI legal team sue this? At least they can make their website less like the actual Chatgpt…this is so deceiving.

I messed their website also with Official OpenAI ChatGPT.

I have asked for refund.

They are advertising PRO version having “No limits”. For me as a ChatGPT newbie it took one day to realize that this PRO version doesn’t offer anything special compared to free version and I’m not logged in to OpenAI ChatGPT.

Hopefully OpenAI legal team could help in this matter and prevent other users to subsrice this scam!!!

ohh man… I wont say I got scammed I was in a rush and didn’t notice carefully what I am purchasing.

Here’s what I did to get my money back:

Firstly, I reached out to Paddle - the 3rd party sales partner that chatbotapp.ai uses to get your cash

You should see thier website - paddle. net - at the bottom of the invoice you receive from chatbotapp.ai

Here’s the kicker - once you get on the paddle landing page, the chatbotapp.ai purchase comes up as free even though you paid for it - I suspect they did this intentionally to make getting a refund harder

Use this to your advantage. It’s blatant deception and I suspect it’s the biggest reason I got my refund

You should see A get help button at the bottom of the landing page.

Press get help, and ask the ai helper to speak to a human representative. you should get an email from a Paddle support member

Here’s how I handled the exchange:
I pointed out the deception with this email"

This seller is a scammer. Your platform shows that I paid them 0.00, yet 120 BBD has been taken from my account. I refuse to continue this conversation with them copied. I demand an
immediate refund.

After a few days without a reply, I put my foot down with this email:

Dear Paddle team,

I am following up on my refund request from 7
days ago, which remains unresolved. I am
frustrated by the lack of response and the delay in
processing this refund.

Please confirm that the refund has been
processed and provide a timeline for when I can
expect the funds to be returned to my account. If
this issue is not resolved by the end of this week, I
will have no choice but to escalate the matter.

I expect a prompt resolution.

Sincerely,

Secondly, I sent this email to Chatbotapp.ai directly

Dear Chatbot App Team

I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the premium service I purchased through your platform, which was misleadingly advertised under the guise of being powered by top-tier
Al models such as GPT-4, Gemini, and Claude. The reality is that your application is nothing more than a pale imitation, failing to deliver on the promises made.

To make matters worse, the chat history summaries have been consistently generated in the wrong language, despite my repeated attempts to rectify this issue. This is not only frustrating
but also unprofessional, leading to a string of interactions that were largely spent trying to correct this problem. Such a fundamental flaw in your service is unacceptable and falls well below
any reasonable standard of quality.

Moreover, I am alarmed by the deceptive practices surrounding the payment for this service. Despite being charged $60 USD, the purchase summary on Paddle, the payment platform you
use, falsely indicates that $0 was spent. This blatant inconsistency is not only misleading but raises serious concerns about the legitimacy of your operations.

Given these issues, I am left with no choice but to demand an immediate refund of the full amount paid. If this refund is not processed promptly, I will be forced to escalate this matter to the
appropriate consumer protection authorities and take further action as necessary.

I expect a swift resolution to this matter. Should you require any further information from my end, do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

If needed, I strongly recommend you copy this email into Chatgpt and adjust the prompts to suit any other specific issues and problems you had with the service that further outline deception, malpractice or sub standard quality - I used one of the emails from this thread in a similar way to make my email

Best of luck to you all!

If you’re interested in seeing it for yourself, you can visit the Google Play Store and search for ChatGPT. A quick glance at the logos is quite revealing about where things currently stand.

Several people I know are using third-party apps without even realizing it. They also often complain about the quality…

How did you get this? I have asked for one but have not gotten a response?

Also got scammed by chatbotapp.ai. Trying to spam paddle about refund…

Last Sunday, I tried subscribing to Chat GPT and was unexpectedly rerouted to a payment processor called Paddle. I literally clicked the hyperlink provided by GPT when I ran out of free usage and offer to upgrade, but ended up somewhere else. They mimicked the GPT branding, so it wasn’t easy to realize and led to an unauthorized charge. I encourage anyone who had a similar experience to dispute the charge and report it to the appropriate agencies.

I’ve paid $59.99 for AI chatbot yearly plan successfully with receipt, but my plan is still “free.” Could anyone help me with it…

same here, this is a fake website.

Hi Is askGPT a scam?

Hi @murieldraoui29
Welcome :people_hugging: to the community!

ChatGPT link is this:

https://chatgpt.com/

The website you mentioned doesn’t seem to belong to OpenAI because the ChatGPT interface you showed isn’t there.

However, this doesn’t mean the website is a scam.

Many websites use the OpenAI API and put “Powered by OpenAI” on their site. They just pay OpenAI to use its API.

Copying the look of the OpenAI logo and other elements as closely as possible is certainly intended to deceive.

Then you get to look at the completely infeasible offers, like “year subscription $60”. Money upfront before they disappear or collapse, or a business model sustained by hacking other accounts or fraud.

Hi everyone,

Its nice to see that a few people who got scammed by this were able to get a refund. I also fell for this yesterday, and after about an hour and 20 or so text prompts realized something fishy in that like others have said there were word count limitations even though the pro version advertised no limitations. I then went on to see the free version which is basically the same as the paid. At this point i was pretty sure ive been scammed. Should have figured based on the pricing “bait” they offer which is simply too good to be true for open AI chatbox. It seems this chatbox app basically uses the equivalent of a google assistant AI which is crap and obviously free anyways. Also the gemini, chatgpt 4 and 4o all seem to give thr same answers so just the same crappy chat box recycled. Definitely fraudulant, and i should have done more research. Long story short i tried to get a refund a few hours later through paddle and chatboxAi but they are responding that I used the chatbox more than 10 times and I am not eligible for a refund. Will continue to spam them, give negative reviews and go through my bank to make a claim regarding this. Seems like paddle is not that useful as they are in business with them and chatbox ai scam site scammers are learning on their mistakes. Ultimately they hope people dont have time and give up, which is likely the case for a lot unfortunately. These people are scum bags

I hope that posted above have gotten some resolution to this scam.

Hello everyone and thank you for having taken time before to share your experience. I have had exactly the same experience and thanks to your comments I have managed to get a full refund.

I was also scammed by this company and like it was advised higher I started to send emails to them calling them out and even sharing this forum’s URL to show them that people are aware of what they’re doing.

They clearly have standard replies where they say that you have already gone above the usage threshold or the time frame to retract your purchase is past.

(Here just a side note for European users who should be aware that regardless of any terms and conditions the law in Europe says that any online purchase is guaranteed 14 days full refund no reasons to be given)

They clearly also have delaying tactics because they do respond to your e-mail telling you that they are taking your case seriously and they advise not to send repeated emails because that would bog them down even more and to expect a response within three to five days.

The thing is that this response never comes hoping of course that you forget about it or you just drop it.

I have kept at it for about a month sending regular reminders and yesterday I received an e-mail saying that they will refund me fully.

I still haven’t received the money on my bank account because that can take up to 30 days they said and I will follow this up as well closely.

But it does look as if with enough insisting they do come back with the money.

Hi everyone,

Just an quick update, I was able to get my money back. Wasnt getting responses from chatbot or paddle, they were denying due to too many queries on the app. After two weeks I raised a dispute regarding the purchase with my bank (HSBC). Got my refund within two days, this was for year sub so around £49 I believe. Its easy to give evidence its a scam, all you do is ask chatbot if they are chagpt 4 turbo, and its responds that its “based on chat gpt”. But bank didnt even ask me for evidence its really that obvious what these guys are doing. They probably did a similar thing with the free account perhaps to check it. Anyways, once they start ghosting guys just raise dispute straight with your bank, its the quickest way to get your money back.

It’s an scam I got scammed too easily.

Just in case..

This person is putting gbt not gpt..

This basically happened to me few days ago. I was losing my mind thinking my chat gpt is not working while I bought subscription on chat gpt APP. Website looks almost the same, as logo design.
