Hello OpenAI team,
I would like to request a feature that allows ChatGPT, with the user’s permission, to directly organize chats inside a Project sidebar.
I use Projects heavily for serious, long-term work. Right now, I can ask ChatGPT to help me design a naming system and recommend how to structure my chats, but ChatGPT cannot actually optimize, rename, sort, group, or reorganize those chats for me. That leaves the last mile of organization manual, repetitive, and time-consuming.
What would be especially valuable:
-
Allow ChatGPT to Optimize, rename chats within a project when I approve the change.
-
Allow ChatGPT to group chats into folders, sections, or subprojects inside a project.
-
Allow ChatGPT to suggest a structure and then apply it with one click.
-
Allow ChatGPT to move chats between sections within a project.
-
Allow ChatGPT to archive completed chats in bulk when I approve it.
-
Allow ChatGPT to maintain a consistent naming convention across a project.
My use case:
I run complex multi-threaded projects with many related chats. One umbrella project may include binders, books, client work, campaigns, research, and website copy. The lack of folders or AI-assisted organization makes the sidebar harder to use as the volume grows.
Why this matters:
Projects are already powerful, but direct sidebar organization would make ChatGPT far more useful as a real work partner, not just a conversational assistant. It would save time, reduce friction, and help users manage long-term professional work at scale.
A permission-based model would be ideal:
“ChatGPT suggests the changes, the user approves, then ChatGPT applies them.”
Thank you for considering this.
