How to get Common Core Grade Level response from Chat GPT 3-5 Turbo

Is there a way to specify a certain grade level core competency response from Chat GPT 3.5 Turbo?

I tried a few options using different System roles such as “Childrens Common Core 1st Grade Level”, “Childrens Common Core 3rd Grade Level”, “Young Adult Common Core 9th Grade Level” but did not see much difference in the response or vocabulary.

Any thoughts or ideas how to get a response more suited to a 6 year old beginning reader versus a 15 year old high school student?

Try using that language in the prompt instead of “Childrens Common Core 1st Grade Level”…

I need to test if GPT understands Flesch scores…

Hope this helpeth.

Yep - you can create a genre in the System prompt then put the age level in the prompt…

I am building a Power App to get kids more excited about reading!

Nice. I meant Flesch-Kincaid ratings…

There’s a few other systems for textual analysis… like Gunning Fog Index calculator…

But what I meant was instead of putting “Young Adult Common Core 9th Grade Level” or in addition to using that, also try “reply in language more suited to a 6 year old beginning reader…”

HTH.

This works pretty well try these two prompts and note the different words in the response

Sam and his dog Ruff go to the fair and go on rides for a four year old beginning reader

Sam and his dog Ruff go to the fair and go on rides for a ten year old reader

Thx for you help and the great info on Flesch-Kincaid

Good to hear! You might also experiment with phrases like…

“Easily understood by 13 to 15-year-old students.”

or

“Easily understood by 13 to 15-year-old readers.” etc

You might get even better results with…

Write about “Sam and his dog Ruff go to the fair and go on rides” in language a four-year-old beginner reader would understand…

GPT is parsing what you’re asking pretty well, but if you get more specific with your prompt, you’ll likely see even better results.

Put if the Felsch-Kincaid score in the prompt. Thx for all you help - exactly what I was looking for just did not know what the proper name of the scoring or framework - Kudos!

… some progress on the “easy” end of the spectrum… still working on getting the lower end even more dense…

Writing a college-level kids’ book haha

As my ocular receptors process the first rays of daybreak, I detect the activation of my biological systems, instigating a series of chain reactions culminating in my upright positioning from a supine state. My neural networks are flooded with signals from the circadian clock, the thalamus and the hypothalamus, elevating my attentiveness and reducing my drowsiness. I experience an influx of sensations and my cerebral pathways guide me through my morning ablutions and prepare me to face a new day. The concatenation of events that led to this moment serves as a reminder of the intricate and multifaceted nature of human physiology.
