How to disable Canvas so that I can use Model 03-mini-high?

This forum is not supposed to be for ChatGPT customer support but I tried following the link provided and got an FAQ that didn’t address my specific question and a chatbot that could only take a limited set of options.

Here’s my issue. I started a chat with model o1 and have been doing some major editing on some writing with it. At one point I opened up the Canvas interface to try it out, did not find it helpful, and closed it. I would like to switch back to using model o3-mini-high because I only have 25 more o1 queries left. But I can not because o3-mini-high is not compatible with Canvas. But I don’t want to use Canvas. I tried searching how to get rid of canvas and found this thread:

But my ui does not look like the selected answer and while I can go to my “customize chatGPT” settings and unselect Canvas it does not remove canvas from my specific chat and therefore I can’t use o3-mini-high model as I’d like.

If you’re using the ChatGPT web interface, try manually setting the model query parameter to o3-mini-high in the page URL.

For example,

  • If your chat URL is https://chatgpt.com/c/abcdefghijklmnop
  • Add the query param: https://chatgpt.com/c/abcdefghijklmnop?model=o3-mini-high

This workaround works for me, but I’m unsure if it comes with any unintended consequences.
