In the User Profile menu there is no way to copy the API keys. If we use a mouse and copy it all we get is the what you see and not the actual key the abbreviated version with the dots. All the options Google/ChatGpt suggests do not exist. There is some bug. Please help
Welcome to the forum.
Once you’ve minted an API key, you cannot see it again. So, if you didn’t write it down or store securely, you’ll need to generate a new key.
Thank you Paul. I wish they had put that info there else lot of people are going to waste time. This small info no Google search or ChatGPT knows about. Thanks again, take care
We do get this information when the key is first generated. It’s a security measure to protect our account and credit card balance from unwarranted access.
interesting. this type of security solution means people have to write down and keep their secure API key to a non-secure place like a file, paper or whatever. which makes thing very non-secure.
I think that’s exactly what password keychain apps are designed to solve…
So I have OPENLY stored API key in my project config to access API, but I cannot get it from official source. If I create new key - my multiple projects will stop working. Or I must create a bunch of keys and somwhere write on file which key uses where.
Just because of advanced OpenAi security.
Meanwhile i can open my bank app and ALWAYS see credit card number, and bank doesn’t force to write credit card number on paper, we can see it in app. So my Bank security is weaker than OpenAI security.
A tons of services have normally acceses API keys - Huggiface, GitHub (surprice!) but not OpenAI with their very StronK Security…
What a pathetic comedy.
This is not true. You can create another API key without affecting the first.
You can create multiple API keys per project. You can go through rotating individual applications to new keys or their own keys. You only need to remove an API key from your OpenAI user interface when it is out of use.
