Having trouble fully switching to Codex — am I missing something?

Hey everyone,

I might be missing something obvious here, so hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I’ve been trying to use Codex as my main tool for coding, and I really like the responses. But I keep running into one problem that’s slowing me down — I’m on macOS and there’s no easy way for Codex to see what’s happening in my terminal.

Right now I have to keep copying and pasting errors, command output, and logs just so Codex understands what went wrong. It works, but it feels clunky and breaks my focus pretty often.

With the regular ChatGPT app, the workflow feels smoother because everything stays more connected. With Codex, I’m not sure if I’m just using it the wrong way or if this is a known limitation.

So just wondering:

  • Is this how most people are using Codex right now?

  • Are there any simple setups or tips that make this easier?

  • Or is better terminal integration something that’s coming later?

Not complaining — just trying to figure out the best way to work with it. Would really appreciate any advice from people who’ve been using Codex longer than I have.

Thanks!

Hi!

Do I understand correctly that you are executing the code in a separate terminal session?

While I am not a Mac user, in my setup I simply ask Codex to execute the code. Within the sandbox, Codex can even spawn its own terminal sessions and read all relevant information from there.

This makes a lot of sense because then running the code without errors can be integrated as a test to see if everything is working as expected.

You misunderstand. It is important to gather the whole picture.
