New Codex App... Have you tried it yet?

Introducing the Codex app—now available on macOS

The Codex app is a powerful command center for building with agents.

• Multitask effortlessly: Work with multiple agents in parallel and keep agent changes isolated with worktrees
• Create & use skills: package your tools + conventions into reusable capabilities
• Set up automations: delegate repetitive work to Codex with scheduled workflows in the background

Available starting today on macOS with Windows coming soon.

And for a limited time, Codex is available through ChatGPT Free and Go subscriptions—and we’re doubling rate limits for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu users—across the Codex app, CLI, IDE extension, and cloud.

ChatGPT ads are not needed in the developer forum. ChatGPT already gets ads.

I have my own Codex app. API codex model. Never nags to pay more because you used up a 5-hour limit.

Works on Windows too.

Doesn’t go nuts iterating writing bash commands to retrieve snippets of files forever, while you sit watching (or paying for input again and again). Just workspace artifacts.

Patch tool. Cannot escape files made read/write, and needs approvals to make even a new file in its own workspace directory.

It’s a very well-done, polished app with many features!

One feature request, if I may ask, is to allow opening files in Zed IDE. or the OS default app

I’m truly shocked at OpenAI’s decisions lately. On one hand we now have AI capable of writing interfaces that directly interact with LLMs. So much that there are open-source projects already doing it.

Then, we have OpenAI, who’s technical team brag about how AI is writing all their code, but then also keeps releasing products that AI can already automate. There seems to be a disconnect between the top and bottom of the company; the board is implementing the same models and features they would 10 years ago, instead of adapting to the future of LLMs.

The only benefit here is taking advantage of ChatGPT’s subsidized cost.

I would wager this will be another forgotten and disposed product - like many - who’s single purpose was marketing.

Codex is under very active development. This is a good time to try the CLI tool, or the app, especially with the extended quotas.
