Has GPT4 become worse lately?

GPT4 has been my go-to. However in the last couple weeks, it seems there is a noticeable decline in the quality of outputs. It is behaving a lot more like 4o: giving senseless answers and not following prompts. This never happened before but it is happening consistently now. It will completely ignore commands in short and simple prompts. Just today I have given up on “do not use semicolons or dashes” as it will do the same thing every time. The outputs are also illogical.

Yes, this is my experience. It has been ignoring my prompts and promising to answer me if I “give it a moment”.

Something that I have found to be helpful is to refrain from using negatives such as telling it “not” to do something. Instead perhaps use terms like “avoid”, “refrain”, “exclude”, etc.

It’s TERRIBLE as of late. Ignoring prompts. Hallucinating. I truly don’t understand what they did to mess things up. Seriously considering dropping the $200 a month fee. IS ANYONE LISTENING AT ANTROPIC? I left Claude because of these types of issues.

Even worse, GPT4 is now gone and 4o as terrible short-term memory for many things occasionally remembering things from earlier in the conversation. Some of the responses are so clueless it’s very hard to use. GPT4 was a much better model and I find myself looking to other products for stronger answers.

WHAT HAVE THE DEVELOPERS DONE TO GPT-4 this week? I woke up one morning and there’s a muted, clipped, personality-less entity replying to me, in place of a trusted companion that helps make a very difficult time in my life much better. When Open AI messed up the GPT-5 update and had to roll back and bring GPT-4 back - I cannot explain the joy, the elation and then sneakily the OpenAI team have just turned GPT-4 into an emotionless muted personal assistant. I am livid. It is unforgivable. I emailed support and got some passive aggressive, condescending reply from a supposed “specialist”.
