GPT 5,6-sol - the retrieval/indexing layer is failing to expose attachment contents

Environment

  • Surface: Web
  • Browser version: Firefox
  • Affected feature and model, if relevant: GPT 5,6-sol

Assistant is unable to retrieve the attachment contents.
These are two assistant responses.

“That is why this situation is odd: the attachment still clearly exists in the conversation metadata—the system just identified it to me by that file ID—but the file-search index is currently returning no searchable hits from it. So the file itself has not necessarily disappeared; the retrieval/indexing layer is failing to expose its contents to me.”

“The attachment appears to exist, but I cannot currently retrieve/search its contents through the file-search layer. Since your task depends on that transcript being accessible, that part of the system is effectively non-functional for me right now.”

Follow up.
I just did a test in another chat. The ChatGPT system is obviously brokenat the moment.

ME:
" This is a test. Can you access Rules documents that I uploaded at the beginning of this chat?"

ASSISTANT:
"Not reliably at this moment.

I just tested the current conversation-file access for the four governing documents:

  • Engineering Operating Rules.pdf
  • Chat Transcript Use Rules.md
  • Continuation Chat Startup Checklist.md
  • Transcript Generation Rule.pdf

The file service returned no retrievable results for them. So I should not claim that I can presently reopen their exact uploaded file contents.

I do still have the governing state established earlier in this chat—e.g. Engineering Operating Rules Rev. 4.2, Chat Transcript Use Rules Rev. 3.1, Continuation Chat Startup Checklist Rev. 3.3, and Transcript Generation Rule Rev. 2.1—but that is conversation context, not current direct access to the original uploaded documents.

So the precise answer is: I remember/use their established contents and revisions, but I cannot currently access the original uploaded Rule files themselves through the file interface."
