Free token are charged - Tier related?

Hi

I have been enrolled in the free token presented here: https://help.openai.com/en/articles/10306912-sharing-feedback-evaluation-and-fine-tuning-data-and-api-inputs-and-outputs-with-openai

My usage today on 4.1 is 300k - so less than the 1m - but they have been charged.

Or what is it because of this “250K for usage tiers 1-2”? I am currently on tier2. So does it mean that my limit is in fact 250k and not 1m ?

Can anyone help me to understand this ?

Hi! It looks like you answered your own question.

Yes, you’re charged for any usage that exceeds the limit, as mentioned in the link you shared.

It’s definitely worth topping up a few credits to reach Tier 3, so you can take advantage of the higher benefits.

Just a reminder: you’ll need to have a positive balance for this to apply, otherwise you get no free tokens at all.
