Feedback buttons disappear when training is disabled

Thumbs up/down feedback buttons disappear when “Improve the model for everyone” is disabled

I’ve been missing the thumbs up/down feedback controls for months.

I had already tried the usual troubleshooting:

- different browsers

-clearing cookies/cache

-logging in again

Nothing brought them back.

Today I enabled “Improve the model for everyone” in Data Controls.

The feedback buttons immediately reappeared.

I disabled the setting again, and the behavior is tied to that setting on my account.

So the reproducible behavior is:

Improve the model for everyone: OFF thumbs feedback controls unavailable
Improve the model for everyone: ON thumbs feedback controls appear

This is especially concerning because OpenAI’s documentation says users who opt out of model training can still provide thumbs up/down feedback.

I have also reported this to Support.

Has anyone else reproduced the same behavior?

Quick update: OpenAI Support replied and confirmed that this should not be happening.

I can reproduce it on both web and mobile. When “Improve the model for everyone” is off, the feedback buttons disappear. When I turn it back on, they return. This has been happening for months.
