Feature Request: Two-Way Visual Drawing Canvas for Learning
I would like to suggest an interactive drawing canvas inside ChatGPT, specifically designed for learning and problem-solving.
The idea is simple:
Student draws → ChatGPT understands → ChatGPT draws → Student understands
For example, imagine I have a physics problem involving an inclined plane. Instead of typing the entire question or uploading a photo, I could draw the problem directly inside the conversation.
ChatGPT could then:
-
Understand the user’s drawing, including diagrams, labels, equations, arrows, and handwritten text.
-
Solve the problem step by step.
-
Draw its own diagram to explain the solution.
-
Add force arrows, labels, angles, components, equations, and annotations directly onto the drawing.
-
Visually show how the solution is derived rather than only explaining it with text.
-
Allow the student to point to or circle something in ChatGPT’s drawing and ask another question about it.
For example, with an inclined-plane problem, ChatGPT could draw the block on the slope, show gravity, normal force, friction, and the components of gravity, then visually walk through the equations and calculations.
This could be extremely useful for:
-
Physics
-
Mathematics
-
Chemistry
-
Engineering
-
Geometry
-
Electrical circuits
-
Graphs and diagrams
-
Science education in general
The important part is that this would be a two-way interactive canvas, rather than simply uploading an image.
The ideal experience would be:
Human draws → AI understands → AI draws → Human interacts → AI explains
Useful tools could include a pen, eraser, arrows, shapes, text, undo/redo, selection/movement, and the ability to continue asking questions while the drawing remains part of the conversation.
The goal isn’t simply to make ChatGPT generate pictures. It would make diagrams a genuine part of the reasoning and teaching process.
Sometimes the best way for an AI to explain something isn’t to write another paragraph.
Sometimes it should be able to say: “Let me draw it.”
