Feature request: Toggle to disable saving in-app camera photos to iOS Photos

Feature request: Add an option to disable saving photos taken inside ChatGPT to the local camera roll.

When using the ChatGPT iOS app’s built-in camera to take a photo for image input, the photo is automatically saved to the iPhone Photos app. However, many users only take these photos as temporary inputs for ChatGPT, such as homework questions, screenshots, menus, documents, objects, or quick visual queries. Automatically saving them can clutter the user’s photo library and may feel unexpected from a privacy and UX perspective.

Other AI apps such as Gemini, Claude, and Grok appear to allow in-app camera capture without automatically saving the photo to the local album.

Suggested improvement:
Add a setting such as “Save captured photos to Photos” with an on/off toggle, or show a choice after taking a photo:

  • Upload only
  • Upload and save to Photos

This would preserve the current behavior for users who want local backups, while giving privacy-conscious users and frequent camera users a cleaner experience.

Hey @Lees! Giving people a choice between “upload only” and “upload + save to Photos” would be a really clean improvement.

Appreciate you surfacing it. No timeline I can share right now, but I’ll pass it along internally.
