Feature Request: Threaded Side Conversations in ChatGPT

I would like ChatGPT to support threaded conversations, similar to Slack.

Currently, when I highlight a specific part of an earlier response and ask a question about it, my question is added to the bottom of the main conversation. This can make long conversations difficult to follow because the new question may relate to something much higher in the chat.

Instead, ChatGPT could allow users to start a thread directly from a highlighted sentence, paragraph, or message. The thread would remain connected to the selected content and could be opened or closed whenever needed.

For example, a user could:

  • Highlight part of a ChatGPT response.
  • Select “Start a thread.”
  • Ask follow up questions inside that thread.
  • Close the thread and continue the main conversation.
  • Return to the thread later without searching through the entire chat.

This would allow users to explore related questions without interrupting or cluttering the main conversation. It would also reduce the need to repeatedly scroll up and down to remember which response a follow up question refers to.

Overall, threaded conversations would make ChatGPT easier to navigate and would give users a better way to organize detailed or branching discussions.
