Feature Request: Project Workspaces for ChatGPT

I’d love to see ChatGPT introduce Project Workspaces as a way to organize conversations.

As users spend more time with ChatGPT, the sidebar naturally grows into hundreds of conversations covering work, personal life, hobbies, research, travel, and more. While search helps, it becomes increasingly difficult to organize longterm projects.

Instead of only adding folders, I suggest introducing Project Workspaces.

A workspace would group related conversations and provide project-level organization.

For example:

  • Work
  • Personal
  • Health
  • Travel
  • Creative Projects

Within each workspace, users could:

  • Organize conversations
  • Search only within that workspace
  • Pin important chats
  • Store shared reference files
  • Define workspace specific instructions (optional)
  • Choose whether memory is shared within that workspace

The key difference is that a workspace isn’t just a folder it’s a persistent environment for an ongoing project.

This would make ChatGPT much better suited for users who rely on it daily across multiple areas of their lives, while keeping the interface simple for everyone else.

Thank you for considering the idea!

Thanks for the thoughtful breakdown, @diegoa91. Most of what you’re describing is already supported through Projects in ChatGPT.

Projects can group related chats, store shared files, use project-specific instructions, search conversations within the project, and keep memory contained to that project. Existing chats can also be moved into a project. (OpenAI Help Center)

We’ll still pass along the remaining organization ideas, particularly improved pinning and workspace controls, for the team to log. The full Projects guide is available in the Help Center article linked above.

The projects view is no longer working - when I click on a project I can’t see my work in the window anymore, and the sidebar column cuts the list off and cannot be widened for a clear view.
