Feature Request: Notebook Functionality in ChatGPT

I am a frequent user of ChatGPT and greatly appreciate its capabilities in assisting with research, learning, and productivity. However, I would like to suggest a new feature that I believe would significantly enhance the user experience: a built-in notebook functionality.

Many users, including myself, use ChatGPT for learning, brainstorming, and research. However, there is currently no efficient way to **save, organize, and revisit important conversations. A built-in notebook feature could solve this by allowing users to:

  1. Create and Manage Notebooks – Users can create multiple notebooks (e.g., “Machine Learning Notes,” “Job Interview Prep”) to organize their insights.

  2. Save Chat Responses to a Notebook – With a simple click or command (e.g., “Save this to my AI notebook”), users can store important responses for future reference.

  3. Edit and Annotate Notes – Allowing users to add their own thoughts, edit saved content, and highlight key points.

  4. Search and Retrieve Notes – A search bar to quickly find past notes based on keywords.

  5. Export Notes – Users can download their notes in Markdown, PDF, or other formats for offline access.

Potential Benefits

• Enhanced Learning Experience: Users can systematically store and review AI-generated knowledge.

• Productivity Boost: Professionals can use it as a research companion without switching between multiple apps.

• Seamless Integration: If combined with tools like Notion or Obsidian, it could provide an even better workflow.

I believe this feature would make ChatGPT not just a conversational AI, but a true knowledge management assistant. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this suggestion and whether OpenAI has plans for similar enhancements in the future.

I would love this feature! I was just thinking this evening such a feature would enhance the user experience SO much. Seems like surely this has to be coming…

I love the idea. an integrated notebook designed specifically for students, combining multiple powerful tools into one platform. This notebook should support solving and rendering math equations, converting handwritten notes to editable text, and answering questions based on uploaded lecture videos using speech and slide analysis. It should also allow users to generate and attach relevant images or diagrams—either via AI or directly from the web—into their notes. By offering all these capabilities students wouldn’t need to subscribe to separate apps.
