I would love to see a native Spotify integration in ChatGPT.
One of the most useful things ChatGPT can do is understand a user’s music taste from conversations, listening history, favorite artists, songs, and other context. However, there is currently a gap between discovering music with ChatGPT and actually putting that music into Spotify.
Ideally, with the user’s explicit authorization, ChatGPT could:
Analyze the user’s Spotify listening history and/or liked songs.
Recommend music based on their actual listening patterns.
Create playlists directly in the user’s Spotify account.
Add or remove songs from existing playlists.
Organize playlists according to a specific mood, genre, activity, or musical characteristics.
Return a direct link to the newly created Spotify playlist.
For example, a user could say:
“Analyze my listening history and create a playlist with 50 songs I probably haven’t heard yet, but that fit my taste.”
ChatGPT could then analyze the user’s preferences, find appropriate songs, create the playlist through Spotify’s API, and provide the playlist link.
This would be especially useful because ChatGPT is already capable of understanding nuanced musical preferences that aren’t necessarily captured by genre labels. A Spotify integration could turn that understanding into an actual, personalized music-discovery workflow.
Privacy-wise, this could work similarly to other account integrations: the user explicitly authorizes access, chooses what permissions to grant, and can disconnect Spotify whenever they want.
Right now, ChatGPT can help me discover music, but I still have to manually move everything into Spotify. I’d love for ChatGPT to be able to do the last step for me.
Please consider adding Spotify as an official ChatGPT integration! ![]()
