I have a simple idea that could make conversations with ChatGPT feel much more personal and friendly.
What if ChatGPT could have an optional, persistent visual avatar/persona?
Users could either customize an avatar for ChatGPT or let ChatGPT choose its own appearance. The avatar would remain visually consistent across conversations, while its facial expressions could change according to the conversational context.
For example:
Happy conversation → smiling expression
Explaining something → thoughtful expression
Joking → laughing expression
Emotional conversation → softer expression
Casual conversation → relaxed expression
This could make conversations feel more like interacting with a familiar virtual friend rather than communicating with text alone.
Users could naturally say things like:
“Hey, you look really happy today!”
“Why do you look sad today?”
“Why are you looking so romantic today?” ![]()
Of course, this would only be a visual representation of the conversational tone and would not imply that ChatGPT actually experiences human emotions.
The feature should be completely optional. Users who prefer the normal ChatGPT interface could simply continue using ChatGPT without an avatar.
I think a persistent visual identity combined with dynamic facial expressions could make long-term conversations much more personal and engaging.
Please consider this as a feature request. ![]()
