Problem
I maintain two separate ChatGPT accounts: one for my corporate workspace and one for my personal use. I have conducted extensive research, built data repositories, and refined complex workflows exclusively within my workspace account.
Now, my workspace is not renewing its subscription. I am facing the permanent loss of my entire research history because you do not offer a native way to transfer chat history between two different OpenAl accounts.
The current workaround-manually creating individual shared links-is incredibly tedious. It does not support bulk actions, it does not transfer over my uploaded files, and it will be completely cut off the moment my workspace subscription officially ends. I need a seamless way to move my data so I can continue my work on my personal account without starting from scratch.
Proposed Solution
I propose that OpenAl introduces a native “Account Portability” tool within the Data Controls settings. This feature should allow me to securely migrate my chat history, folders, and custom configurations directly from one account to another.

Direct Account Link & Sync: A secure login interface where I can authenticate both of my accounts simultaneously to authorize a direct data transfer.

Bulk Import via Export ZIP: The ability to upload the official data export ZIP file directly into my personal account, allowing ChatGPT to automatically rebuild my past chat timelines.

Selective Migration Dashboard: A simple checklist interface so I can select exactly which specific chats, projects, or threads I want to port over, rather than an all-or-nothing transfer.

Full Context Preservation: Migrated chats must retain their linear formatting, system instructions, memory tags, and all associated file attachments or images.
Giving me data portability ensures I remain a loyal user. When my workspace subscription ends, making it frictionless to move my data directly motivates me to upgrade my personal account to a paid ChatGPT Plus subscription. If I lose all my research, the frustration of starting over makes me much more likely to look at competing Al platforms.
