Feature Request: Better Chat Organization, Triage, and Customizable Controls

ChatGPT needs stronger organization tools for people who use it as a real workbench, not just a casual chat app.

A lot of users are building projects, research threads, creative worlds, business plans, family systems, code workflows, writing drafts, and long-term knowledge bases inside ChatGPT. The current sidebar, Projects view, and message controls still make that work harder to manage than it should be.

I would like to suggest a broader organization and control system.

Core features:

  1. Color-coded conversation triage
    Users should be able to mark chats visually by status:
  • Green: important / active / keep close
  • Yellow: review later
  • Red: delete candidate / clean up after review
  1. Conversation value labels
    Not every long conversation is valuable, and not every short conversation is disposable. Users should be able to label chats as:
  • Disposable
  • Reference
  • Project
  • Legacy
  • Active Work
  1. Project-level organization
    Projects should support better internal structure, such as:
  • Pin chats inside a specific Project
  • Manually reorder chats
  • Group chats by phase, topic, or status
  • Filter by label, color, date, or project role
  • Keep control/reference chats separate from ordinary working chats
  1. Review-before-delete workflow
    Before deleting chats, users should have a safer review flow:
  • Show what useful information may be inside
  • Let users extract a short summary or key decisions
  • Confirm whether the chat is safe to remove
  • Reduce accidental deletion of important work
  1. Conversation summary cards
    ChatGPT could generate compact cards for important chats with:
  • Main idea
  • Key decisions
  • Useful takeaways
  • Next steps
  • Tags
  • Related projects or files
  1. Customizable message controls
    Users should be able to choose which quick-action buttons appear directly under ChatGPT responses.

For example, if a user relies on the Speak / Read Aloud feature, they should not have to open a three-dot menu every time just to hear a response. Let users customize the visible buttons, such as:

  • Speak / Read Aloud
  • Copy
  • Regenerate
  • Save / Pin
  • Share
  • Continue
  • Add to Project

The main idea: ChatGPT should give users more control over how conversations are organized, reviewed, preserved, cleaned up, and interacted with. For casual users this keeps the app cleaner. For heavy users, it turns ChatGPT into a serious long-term thinking and project-management environment.
