I’d really like an option to automatically start Read Aloud after a normal text response finishes generating.
Right now, on mobile, I have to open the ••• menu and tap Read Aloud after every single reply. Since Read Aloud was moved into that menu, using it repeatedly has become pretty cumbersome.
What I want is very simple:
I send a message → ChatGPT generates the normal full text response → it automatically reads that response aloud.
This is different from Voice / Live mode.
I prefer standard text chat because I can get the full text-model experience: more thoughtful responses, longer answers when needed, tool use, web research, project context, etc. Live Voice is great for real-time conversation, but it doesn’t serve the same use case for me.
I often want to send a message, put my phone down, and just listen to the finished answer without having to keep looking at the screen and tapping through a menu every time.
Ideally there could be:
- a global “Auto Read Aloud” toggle
- an optional per-chat override
- the existing manual Read Aloud option kept as well
This would make standard text chat much more useful as a hands-free experience without sacrificing the quality and depth of the text model.
Please don’t remove Read Aloud — I use it a lot. An auto-play option would make it much better.
