Hi, Iām a long-term user of Chat GPT. Iāve been with you guys since ChatGPT 3 & I use it literally every day. If you look at how many entries I have, it has to be within the hundreds or more. I was so excited to the Advanced voice mode And I love the direction that youāre going with it. However, ever since I received it, I have been unable to use ChatGPT as Iāve been able to every single day since Iāve had the app. This app has been a life changer, Especially suffering with ADHD, itās helped me breakdown things. The thing I liked about the previous version before advance mode, which really helped, was being able to press down the voice activation button without being interrupted.
The biggest trouble that I have right now is that even if I pause talking for one second, Using the new advance mode, it tends to interrupt me. With ADHD, this distracts me so much that I lose my thought every time I try to talk. And now I canāt do my brain dumps like I do every day to solve major problems and strategies and business related inquiries. It is really saddening. I hope you all can hear me out, and avid user of your app. I love it And thankful for the time Iāve been able to Utilize it.
Iām hopeful this can be directed to the people who can make the adjustments for this. About percent of the population does suffer from this so this would be the couple hundred million of people. If there is a way to hold the button, Where it prevent you from being interrupted, this should be integral. If there is any way to submit this feedback to a supervisor Who has the capability of implementing this, I feel this would be highly beneficial for the company.
Thanks for your time in reading this.
By the way, I did try testing teaching ChatGPT to not interrupt me with that didnāt work. No matter how many times or how specific I was and telling it not to interrupt me while I was talking lol. Hopefully this can get to somebody
I meant to say about an estimated 2-4% of the human population suffers from ADHD, so I feel this update to the advanced voice mode would be crucial. It has impacted me tremendously. I am hopeful for some help.
As far as the distractibility goes, I can find this to potentially be a problem for people even without ADHD. Specifically for ADHD, though, this issue is heightened and arises from disruptions in the neural pathways that manage executive functions. This is related to attention regulation and working memory, which is a primary characteristic of ADHD.
Yep, I really like the being able to force it to listen in standard voice mode by pressing the screen.
Would be great to have this in advanced voice mode or it be better and not interrupting. Itās quite disruptive, making me lean more towards standard mode for most conversations currently.
Itās terrible and I donāt know why everyone is not voicing more outrage. I am not adhd but it is completely useless now. Cuts me off constantly and canāt look at articles on line. I used to love long drives talking about various papers and articles. Used it constantly. Now I have to cancel. Why would they make it so bad? Iāve lost all faith in this company to deliver on quality products
Thanks for posting this, Iāve been going through the same struggle as well. The old (non advanced) voice mode allowed you to tap and hold the big middle button and release when you were done speaking. Just exposing that simple functionality would basically solve this.
In my case Iām using it to learn a foreign language, and since Iām not fluent I need to pause a lot. Every time I pause for a second, it interrupts. Would like to be able to finish my thought, and then have it respond.
Does anyone from OPEN AI read these messages? The old voice used to interrupt, but at least we could press and hold the screen. Now it is almost unuseable. Constanly interupts, a real backward step. Way less āintellegentā
I hope so. I see that Iām not the only one having trouble since the update with being interrupted. I really miss the button. I sent an email to the support team and they said that they will be āreviewing it internallyā, so hopefully it gets somewhere. If we can keep raising awareness even on this post as well, especially seeing how many more people run into the same problem, maybe they will notice how many of us actually are. Hopefully it gets fixed.
I think this advance voice mode is deteriorating the quality of the voice chat. Because it keeps interrupting the user and we are unable to control that. Please bring the previous version.
Couldnāt agree more with this thread. It isnāt a issue of ADHD. Itās a matter of the human need for time to formulate a question. People use ChatGPT to get information about complicated topics, and that requires pauses to think, false starts, backing up and re-stating things. Some of the transcripts are unintentionally hilarious. A sure-fire way to get ChatGPT to fail the Turing test is simply to speak slowly. To a human being, these interruptions are highly annoying because we have social expectations for a conversation. Itās clear ChatGPT isnāt having a conversation with you, only simulating one.
This is a huge problem for me and makes it almost unusable. Iām a slow, thoughtful speaker because I like to phrase things just right ā especially knowing that my wording can affect the answer dramatically (ChatGPT doesnāt typically ask clarifying questions!).
This means I literally canāt have a conversation with it, because it interrupts me halfway through a thought.
Iād almost like to have a keyword, like the reverse of āAlexa, blah blahā. Maybe like, āblah blahā¦ Go ahead, ChatGPT.ā
Yeah, the interrupting incessantly seems like a relatively new or recently worse issue. I was trying to have a conversation with 4o using Advanced Voice this week and it wouldnāt stop talking. Updated special instructions to only reply when directly addressed. While testing to see if that worked, it actually said out loud āSilently waiting to be asked to speakā¦ā Funny but still frustrating!
I have this problem as well. On the assumption that OpenAI wonāt solve this problem very soon here are two work arounds I have
start off the conversation saying that it is going to take me a long time to get it all out and so to only respond with āis there anything more?ā Until I say I am done and ready to hear the response. Then after ai responds I just wait and compose my next sentence and then when ready I say my sentence and it says is there anything more. That only works for so long however and then it decides to move on but still it is a huge improvement. I need time to think and this way I can take as long as I want between sentences.
I notice that it I use advanced mode enough I run out of time which means then I am pushed back to the non advanced mode. So thatās great. I havenāt yet figured out a way to get there right off. The main advantage for me of the non advanced mode is that they have the button where I can hold it down to say I am not done.
Yeah this has been a huge issue when using advance voice mode for me. Really wish there was something I can do to stop it from constantly interrupting me. Really makes it feel like I have to be in a rush to talk to it and I canāt take a breath.
Same here, I would like the ability to set a key word that Chatgpt listens for and doesnāt begin responding until after I say it - āChatgpt, can you tell me about blah blah ā¦umā¦ blah blah blah, wait, I mean blah blah, blah blah? Goā
Ideally this word would be custom settable by the user.
Iām with you! I have ADHD too and the whole benefit of voice mode was to allow me to flow through my thoughts whilst taking the time to use precise language- now I donāt even get a chance to think! We just end up interrupting each other which has resulted in some weird āterms of useā violations as it misinterprets my 2-second interjections as I attempt to finish talking. Itās not a great feature to have taken away.
Also chat just a heads up if you type āhiā (or something) into ChatGPT before you hit voice mode, itāll use standard voice mode not advanced. Youāre welcome
