I would like to suggest that users are able to have “folders” for different chats.
For example, I would like to have a folder for “Programming” questions and “School” where each of those have specific chats in them that relate to that topic, instead of having them all listed from most recently used.
This would function similarly to a regular file management system on any device, where one can create a folder and keep inside that folder specific files so they’re easy to locate.
I think this would improve user experience a lot, especially for those (like myself) who have multiple chats for oftentimes overlapping topics.
FYI, the ability to organise chats is a very popular request, as shown in posts like this - hopefully it will happen sometime soon, chat history is getting unmanageable:
I was looking for something similar for ages too — organizing ChatGPT chats into folders would be a game changer.
I recently came across a Chrome extension called “ Cloud Folders & Search, Organize for ChatGPT” that actually adds folders, bookmarks, and even search inside ChatGPT. Tried it out last week and it’s been really helpful so far. Not perfect, but gets the job done and feels native inside the UI.
Might be worth checking out if you’re still struggling with messy chat history.
