Feature Request: Expand/Collapse Individual Chat Responses

Problem

When ChatGPT provides a long response, users often encounter unfamiliar concepts or terms while reading. They may need to ask a follow-up question or explore a particular concept before continuing with the original response.

Currently, this can require scrolling up and down repeatedly. Users can easily lose track of where they stopped reading, particularly in long conversations.

Proposed Solution

Introduce an expand/collapse option for individual ChatGPT responses.

How it would work

  1. Each ChatGPT response should have an option to collapse or expand it.

  2. While reading a long response, users could collapse it temporarily.

  3. They could then ask follow-up questions or explore other concepts in the conversation.

  4. Once finished, they could expand the original response and continue reading.

Important Requirement: Preserve Scroll Position

ChatGPT should remember the exact scroll position inside an individual response when it is collapsed.

When the user expands that response again, it should automatically return to the exact point where they stopped reading, rather than taking them back to the beginning of the response.

This is an important part of the feature because simply expanding the response without remembering the reading position would still require users to search for where they left off.

Instead of scrolling through the entire original response repeatedly, they could collapse it, explore the concept, and then expand the original response.

ChatGPT would automatically restore the exact scroll position, allowing the user to continue reading from where they left off.

Suggested Feature Name: Collapsible Chat Responses with Scroll Position Memory
