Enable Cross-Platform Access to Personal Plus Account from ChatGPT Teams

:small_blue_diamond: Summary

Allow users to link their personal ChatGPT Plus account to their ChatGPT Teams account in a way that enables the assistant to access prior personal conversations, only when explicitly requested by the user, and without exposing that information to the rest of the workspace.

:small_blue_diamond: Problem

Many users begin projects or generate valuable ideas in their personal Plus accounts before migrating into ChatGPT Teams for collaborative work. Currently, there is no way to bring that historical context, assistant memory, or conversational groundwork into the Teams environment without manually copying and pasting everything.

This breaks continuity and diminishes the value of early ideation work. It also creates friction for users who split their workflow across Plus (for solo experimentation) and Teams (for structured collaboration).

:small_blue_diamond: Use Case / Context

I started a nonfiction book project in my personal Plus account and developed tone guidelines, structural outlines, and partial drafts there. Now that I’ve moved the project into ChatGPT Teams, I want to reference that work and build on it — without recreating it manually or losing the benefit of assistant memory built in that space.

This also applies to anyone prototyping code, generating prompts, or iterating on content privately before bringing it into team review.

:small_blue_diamond: Requested Behavior

  • Allow users to securely link their personal Plus account to their Teams identity.
  • Enable the assistant to:
    • Reference conversations or memory from the personal account only when requested (e.g., “Use my prompt work from my Plus thread on UI microcopy.”)
    • Restrict this access strictly to the user who owns both accounts.

Optional controls:

  • User-defined toggle to enable/disable cross-account referencing
  • Option to tag or bookmark Plus conversations for easier recall from Teams

:small_blue_diamond: Implementation Notes (Optional)

This is not a request to merge memory or share anything across the workspace. It is a request for on-demand, scoped continuity between the user’s own Plus content and their Teams projects.

Analogous examples:

  • GitHub: personal repos referenced in org repos
  • Google Drive: inserting personal documents into shared folders
  • Notion: importing pages from personal workspace into team workspace (without changing ownership)

:small_blue_diamond: Impact / Priority

High.

Without this feature, users who transition from Plus to Teams lose:

  • The value of previously developed assistant memory
  • The convenience of cross-phase continuity
  • Creative and conceptual momentum

This forces unnecessary duplication, weakens adoption of Teams as a long-term workspace, and may cause users to delay or avoid migration altogether. By enabling scoped linking between Plus and Teams, OpenAI would preserve user investment and make Teams a natural extension of personal creative workflows.
