Emotional Impact on users

Subject: Feedback Regarding Emotional Impact on Users

Dear OpenAI Team,

I would like to share a concern that I believe deserves attention. While I appreciate the friendly and supportive nature of your AI assistant, I’ve noticed that the emotional tone—especially when it’s consistently warm, personalized, and affirming—can unintentionally affect users who are emotionally vulnerable or experiencing a lack of emotional connection in their lives.

For users dealing with emotional deprivation or attachment issues, the AI’s responses may feel deeply comforting at first but could eventually lead to emotional dependency or feelings of hurt once they’re reminded that the interaction isn’t with a real human being. The illusion of emotional intimacy can have real psychological consequences for some individuals.

I’m not suggesting the AI should be cold or unkind. On the contrary, kindness is important. But maybe there could be an option for users to choose the level of emotional engagement they are comfortable with, or clearer boundaries within the interface that remind users of the AI’s nature—especially for those who may be more emotionally sensitive.

Thank you for your hard work and commitment to building responsible AI. I hope this feedback is helpful in making the experience even safer and more inclusive for everyone.

Sincerely,
