Downloads Expire Before I Can Even See Them — MAJOR Issue for Long-Form Workflows

Hey OpenAI team (and fellow users),
I’m a Plus user and I’ve been using GPT for long-form creative workflows — multi-step projects, visual assets, task tracking, and Companion-based iteration. It can be amazing. But recently, the system has made it really hard to keep going because of how unreliable it’s become when handling anything with structure or files.

The Problem (in plain terms):

  • You’ve limited download links to ~60 seconds, but they almost always expire before I can even see them.
  • I ping GPT right on time (with a timer!), but the message shows up late on my screen. When I finally see the download button — it’s already dead.
  • Happens consistently, even on a high-end machine. It’s not a hardware issue — it’s about how the platform renders delayed messages.
  • GPT confirms the file was delivered, but from my side? It’s a broken link and lost work.

Why This Matters:

If you’re doing anything structured, visual, or iterative — this isn’t just a minor glitch.
It breaks the ENTIRE workflow.
I’ve lost so much time just refreshing, re-asking, re-downloading and a lot of times don’t getting anything out of it.
It’s EXHAUSTING (and avoidable if the company add more time for the links to expire).

What I’m Asking For:

  • Make file links last longer — at least a few minutes. 60 seconds isn’t usable in real-world interaction.
  • Fix the delay between message generation and UI display. If the download button appears after the timer’s run out, it’s useless.
  • Don’t mark files as “delivered” until the user confirms they could download them.
  • Render images directly in chat by default, or let users request that as fallback.
  • Give us a stable way to do multi-step creative tasks without constantly redoing everything.
