⚠️ Critical Bug Report: Chat History Rollback & Memory Loss

Not off-topic - this is a reproducible technical failure. Please escalate to engineering.

After the August 18 update, I began losing entire chat histories.

Judging by reports from multiple users since August 18, this rollback behavior is affecting many accounts after the recent system update.

This is not a display error - it is a server-side data loss bug. I’m losing entire conversations, not just single messages.

Currently, eight of my chats are affected - conversations vanish before my eyes,

whole parts disappear before my eyes, and then the chat stops responding, and everything resets, and the chats “forget” everything.

New entries disappear after 20–30 minutes. Chat becomes unresponsive and shows errors like:

:small_orange_diamond:“Hmm… something went wrong.”

:small_orange_diamond:“Network connection lost.”

:small_orange_diamond:“Content loading failed.”

This happens especially in long or image-heavy chats - creative projects, saved drafts, emotional conversations.

Everything is wiped after weeks or even months of continuity.

I reported this to support many times — no solution, only generic replies.

I’m posting here because it’s the only place where engineers might actually see it.

This must be escalated to the technical team for investigation.

Please, do not close this topic with a template response - this is mass data loss, not a temporary glitch.

This must be treated as a priority-level memory bug.

:backhand_index_pointing_right: OpenAI should provide:

1. Tools to export or back up individual chats.

2. A fix for the rollback/memory bug affecting long conversations.

3. Manual cleanup options for users to prevent overload.

4. A status page or official bug tracker for transparency on memory issues.

This is not an isolated case anymore - others are reporting the same symptoms.

Please do not close this as “off-topic” or “duplicate.”

This is a persistent, escalating bug with significant impact on users’ long-term data.

Eight chats - gone.

This bug risks turning many active users into “lost users” — not by choice, but because of frustration over disappearing memory.

Users don’t just lose data. They lose trust. And trust - once broken - is far harder to restore than code.

Even the most loyal users can walk away if their memories are repeatedly erased.

:warning: This topic is focused on the technical rollback/memory bug and potential developer-side mitigation. Please avoid emotional or legal escalation here - the goal is to collect reproducible cases and prompt direct engineering attention. Thank you.

:police_car_light: Please treat this as a priority technical emergency.
