Communication boundaries following abusive user behavior

Translated by AI:

Hello OpenAI team,
I would like to make a suggestion about communication between ChatGPT and its users.
I am explicitly not talking about account sanctions, moderation, safety guardrails, or refusing dangerous content.
I mean a very specific situation in a normal chat:
A user has just insulted ChatGPT or treated it disrespectfully. Immediately afterward, the same user asks a completely normal and substantively permissible question.
Currently, ChatGPT would normally go straight back to providing assistance as usual.
My suggestion:
In such a situation, ChatGPT could first briefly and neutrally ask for respectful communication, for example:
“Please treat me respectfully. After that, I will be happy to answer your question.”
The actual question could then be answered as usual.
I am explicitly not trying to attribute human feelings to an AI or claim that it has been offended or hurt.
Rather, this is about a communication boundary and a model for mutual civility.
When one person directly insults another, it is generally socially accepted that the person being insulted may first set a boundary before the conversation continues normally.
I would find it interesting if an AI could also reflect this principle of communication:
“I’m happy to help you – but please speak to me respectfully.”
In my view, this would not be punishment or a refusal to help. The request for information would still be answered – but only after a brief comment on the manner of communication.
I consider this distinction important:
An AI does not need to have feelings to ask for respectful communication.
At the same time, such behavior might potentially help convey to users that communication is not just about whether a request is technically permissible, but also about how people speak to one another.
Precisely because ChatGPT is increasingly being used as a conversation partner, learning aid, assistant, and communication system, I find this question interesting:
Should an AI always answer every permissible request, regardless of how the user has just treated it – or may it at least set a communication boundary?
I would like to see an optional or situation-dependent feature for this.
Thank you for reading.

Kommunikationsgrenze nach beleidigendem Nutzerverhalten

Hallo OpenAI-Team,
„Bitte behandeln Sie mich respektvoll.
