Why i’m i getting this error message anytime i try to login on windows. I just noticed this some hours ago. Also i tried to create a new user to login and still get the same error. please i need help
This looks like the login process is failing during the OAuth token exchange, not necessarily a problem with your Windows user account.
A few things I would try first:
- Check the OpenAI status page to see if there is any active login or Codex incident.
- Try signing in again from a different browser or an incognito window.
- Disable VPN, proxy, firewall filtering, or antivirus web protection temporarily and try again.
- Make sure your network allows access to auth. openai. com
- If you are using Codex CLI on Windows, try running it through WSL, since Windows support can be more sensitive.
- Update Codex to the latest version and try the login flow again.
Since you already tried creating a new Windows user and got the same error, I would suspect network, firewall, proxy, DNS, or a temporary OpenAI auth issue before reinstalling Windows.
Hi i got the same problem, in my case it was my antivirus for one reason block the connection with chatgpt, turn off that and try again
Hi @eleeoprince ! Sorry for the late follow-up.
Just wanted to check if you're still running into the token_exchange_failed error when signing in to Codex on Windows.
If it's still happening, here are a few things worth trying:
- Make sure you're using the latest version of Codex, then restart it.
- Check whether your antivirus, firewall, VPN, or proxy might be interfering with the connection, as others have mentioned above.
- Try switching to a different network, if possible, to see if that makes a difference.
- Try signing in again with your ChatGPT account.
You can also check out the Codex guide for more information.
If you're still having trouble after trying these steps, let me know whether the browser sign-in completes successfully before the error appears.
