Personally, I think it’s likely most AI companies with frontier models are tightening their belts so to speak when it comes to compute. The days of unlimited usage for a small amount of money are likely over.
Have you looked into local models if cost is an issue for you?
10%~20% increase I could understand, but it’s a 500%~700% increase. Something must be wrong.
By the way, openai’s cache % is unstable, sometimes I saw a few calls suddenly dropped to 2% cache during a conversation, then jumped back to 80%~90%
Think of it the other way? You were likely getting hundreds of millions of “free” tokens for one low monthly cost, but now it’s a more realistic number so everyone has access to the compute. Who knows, price might go back down as some of these massive datacenters come online, but for the immediate future, it’s getting expensive for all major AI companies.
At the same time, if you do require more tokens, the metered API is available.
