Codex in ChatGPT desktop app for Linux is now in preview 🐧

I understand your pain. Actually, for Linux, having a deb or rpm is equivalent to having everything. Think about how AUR is handled, think about Gentoo packaging. In fact, appimage is the ultimate solution.

I disagree. The correct solution is Flatpak. A Flatpak package is automatically compatible with all Linux distributions without requiring you to download a file and allows for updates, unlike an AppImage, which requires re-downloading!

ChatGPT isn’t perfect on Wayland; if you need those pets, it can’t actually be placed in the bottom right corner on Wayland. I think that’s why they default to X11; Wayland’s security is just too high.

For now, Computer Use is not yet supported on Linux, but support is planned for a future release.

Other than that, Linux is largely at feature parity with macOS and Windows.

Native Wayland support is currently experimental and will continue to improve. In a Wayland session, the app uses XWayland when available. To explicitly select native Wayland, fully quit the app and launch it from a terminal:

chatgpt --ozone-platform=wayland

Some features, such as floating windows, window positioning, focus, and keyboard shortcuts, may not fully work while native Wayland support matures.

why not for arch linux . can you please tell when it will officially released for arch linux

The app works nicely on my ubuntu 26 LTS, but the resource consumption of app is pretty much high. Even though i have plenty of RAM but still it uses alot of cpu and gpu both. This should be optimized.

Can we take an update for old version of Ubuntu ? Likely 20.04, 18.04 etc..
Best ragards,

OK, now I see why native wayland wasn’t set as default.
It was meant for Computer Use which is coming for linux ver ChatGPT app.

Wow, awesome !

Could a release of an AppImage version be done as well ? This would be awesome from a compatibility and portability point of view and to reduce potential clashes with specific distros or distros’ versions…

Finally, it’s here! I’ve been waiting for it for a while!
